Suggestion

Hartech carry used cranks so if you go with them for a rebuild, you won't be paying £5k (+VAT) for a new crank.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Absolutely gutted, engine failure, garage reckons a failed out pump starved the engine, not so sure? Crank is destroyed, all pistons and sleeves will need to be replaced. Looking at options, sell as it (engine is out the car and dismantled) the car is a good spec woth xenons, pccm+ ,xag aero, white dials, bose. A rebuild is currently out of budget (due to a crank alone being 5k) Potentially looking to replace the engine of i can have assurance on the health.

POST 3Original post

Saw and commented on your post of FB but I'll say same again here. Hartech carry used cranks so if you go with them for a rebuild, you won't be paying £5k (+VAT) for a new crank. Obviously there will be some cost to it but not that. And once they strip it, there might be many parts that are recoverable.....but who knows.

POST 4Original post

I've just read your reply on there too. You need to read it again. Edit: Just seen your reply.

POST 5Original post

Stick it in Copart if it still runs.. Will probably get a reasonable bid and you will be rid of the agro.

Engine is stripped in bits.

POST 7Original post

Sorry to hear this. Trying to sell it and expecting someone else to do the repairs will leave you wide open to not getting a decent price for it. Unfortunately your options aren’t great and a rebuild or replacement motor might be the best option. Hope you can get it sorted one way or another

Destroying a crank would take some doing so that is truly bad news, but are you positive that it is not salvageable? Could you post some pictures?

POST 10Original post

I followed your posts on the facebook groups, as i was thinking of selling my car earlier this year and research what price cars were being bought at, and i’m not surprised the engine has finally failed, it’s been making some warning noises for quite a while I would try and detatch all emotions and just get rid, old porsche ownership isn’t for everyone.

POST 12Original post

Which one? The ones I've seen are either damaged or for a 3.4

POST 13Original post

Its on sale from 986-996. It needs a regrind or just a polish.

Ah, you might be right it says 996 but mentions a 2.7 boxster engine.
