Once undo from the coffin arm I knew instantly the problem was the ball & socket end of this arm that was the problem. You could move the arm back and forth and feel the play in the socket end.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Help!!! I’m struggling to identify an annoying knock from the suspension. I only hear it when I’m turning right sharply. Usually if I’m going around roundabout fairly briskly, as I I’m turning round the apex and the front left wheel starts unloading I hear a knock. I’ve had a full suspension refresh, Koni actives, h&r springs. All arms, drop links, anti roll bar bushes and new front drive shafts. Still got the same knock. So frustrating I’ve got some play in the front diff, more on the offside. Could that movement be causing it? Drive shafts hitting the hub? Any ideas??

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I did wonder that but the new ones have been cut down

POST 4Original post

The control arm that bolts on to the coffin arm. Read about mine here: Thread 'Lower control arm/fork refurb' 31 Mar 2022 I had an annoying knock on the back right hand side when braking & cornering. Afterchecking everything was tight and trying to find any movement in the suspension arms I was ready for giving up. As a last resort I though I'd undo the lower control support arm that bolts to the subframe and other end to the centre of the coffin arm. Once undo from the coffin arm I knew instantly the problem was the ball & socket end of this arm that was the problem. You could move the arm back and forth and feel the play in the socket end. New ones for the 996/986 are circa £85 for Meyle, etc. which makes it... Alex Replies: 1 Forum: Porsche 911 996 (1997-2005)

POST 5Original post

Does the knock happen straight away, when you first start driving the car or after you have been driving a while? If the latter, it could be the track rod end on one side. I had bad knocking from front suspension after I'd been driving for a while (more than 15 minutes). Replaced both track rod ends (which were bad) and solved the problem.
