Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I drove it without the head unit (so speakers disconnected) and it was MUCH better, but the sound was still there at high RPM, this time it was distinctively coming from the engine bay whereas before it felt more diffuse (because it was carried into the cabin by the speakers I guess).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Watch IMG_6228 | Streamable Watch "IMG_6228" on Streamable. streamable.com This high-pitched whistling sound has been there since I got the car. It's not accompanied by any other symptoms as far as I can tell. It's now bothering me enough to want to locate the cause. First of all, this is not a normal sound, right? Second, it sounds like air to me, possibly one of the myriad of vacuum hoses? Could it be pulley whine/something else? Any ideas or experiences welcome.

POST 2Original post

possibly an issue with your audio system, probably the amp or a wiring issue ? system turned off won't make a difference you will have to disconnect the unit and amp (under seat), if the issue goes away then that is the issue worth checking as this is the easier to check and repair

That'd be an ideal scenario, I actually pulled the Chinese PCCM clone out yesterday to reground it as I was getting coil whine with the lights on. Will take the car for a ride and report back

I drove it without the head unit (so speakers disconnected) and it was MUCH better, but the sound was still there at high RPM, this time it was distinctively coming from the engine bay whereas before it felt more diffuse (because it was carried into the cabin by the speakers I guess). The bad ground on the HU or the amp is making it worse but not creating it. I'm now suspecting a belt roller, will take out the airbox, remove the belt and check them. This is how it sounds when starting the car Watch IMG_6234 | Streamable Watch "IMG_6234" on Streamable. streamable.com
