So the car failed its MOT a few years ago and hasn't been used since because I have far too many cars.
Leading evidence: 'Use since' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair of the flexi part of the silencer just next' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Has anyone done a repair of the flexi part of the silencer just next to the tail pipe?

I guess I'll give that a go unless I can do some kind of repair without

But I thought I may as well do the full change anyway.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I thought I'd start a thread here about my 996. The plan is to sell it. So for now I thought I'd document what's going on because I know some buyers want to know absolutely everything they can possibly need to know and more.
Why is it Rock Hard
It's got very racey KW Clubsport coilover suspension. The car came to me like this. I bought it because I like buying cars which have been modified a bit because it shows that the owner has invested a few quid and therefore hopefully the car was sound to begin with. Everyone told me to avoid a car with old tired suspension and this absolutely definitely and positively does not have that. Its got stiffer bushes and roll bars too. So yes it's Rock Hard.
If Chuck Norris drove a 996 it would be the same as mine ... maybe.
So the car failed its MOT a few years ago and hasn't been used since because I have far too many cars. My plan now is to get the car to pass an MOT because everyone seems to think that will make selling simpler - so let's see.....
The car already has a blog here

First up is new discs and pads. I already have the discs and pads in stock or under the stairs. These weren't a fail but I did have some binding from one rear. But I thought I may as well do the full change anyway. I've added some before pics.
Second is the broken rear silencer. I have a spare pair of those also or could attempt a repair using some flexi pipe possibly without removing the silencer and all its rusty bolts and brackets - last pic. Not sure what's easiest.

Has anyone done a repair of the flexi part of the silencer just next to the tail pipe?
Do I need to remove the rear bumper to get access to the rear / side silencers and if so is that simple to do?
You can remove the silencers without removing the bumper, but much easier with the bumper off. Taking the bumper off is not a big deal, except for some seized torx screws and rusted away heatshields & brackets that you might encounter; your last pic tells me that's probable
Fair enough, but I was looking at the screw on the top right that secures the bumper to the heatshield and heatshield bracket

Final 2p worth of advice, you might find instructions that don't mention removing the rear lights, it's easier to remove them esp. for reinstallation and takes less than a minute.
Ok I got the split in the silencer welded up. It's not pretty but it's solid enough. It appears that the flexi section is very thin metal double skinned so that made welding it tricky. My mate the welder isn't super happy with the result.
I refitted the silencer after cleaning up the threads on the side clamp. I've not got the bumper back on yet or the side heat shield and the exhaust tip is just at a guess angle. I'm assuming the side clamp has no adjustment so the silencer just goes on in one spot sos is that right or can it be adjusted up and down? Right now my passenger tip looks lower than my driver tip.
Hopefully I can still access the clamp for the tip once the heat shield and bumper are back on if it needs a tweak in terms of rotation but that's not a priority right now. I just want the MOT pass.
I made a start on the rear brakes too. I might buy new retaining clips and what not. If anyone knows where these are available let me know. Otherwise I might try GSF or the OPC.
