Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I say turbo but what I mean is that he had fitted a bypass pipe in place to give that turbo, noisy sound.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Could anyone please tell me if the standard silencer boxes fitted to the 3.4 earlier models are the same as the units fitted to the 3.6 40th Anniversary model ? Visually they look very similar? Any information would be helpful. Thanks, Tony

POST 2Original post

The PET shows different codes for various years, including sports option IXLF and X51. The anniversary included the X51 pack. They do look the same. Certainly aftermarket seem to be generic. Probably best to call OPC to confirm to keep yours in spec.

POST 3Original post

They will all fit, internals are different as Tony says for X51 options cars, so the answer I suppose is no

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys, obviously mine has the x51 kit on and the last thing I want to do is choke it up and create too much back pressure. I was trying to keep things standard, however OPC boxes are silly money, so I will be looking at aftermarket options. Thanks again, Tony

POST 5Original post

I seem to recall from this being asked years ago that the fixing brackets for a tiptronic car's backbox may be different to a manual car's brackets. So bear that in mind to check

POST 6Original post

I was always told that they are different. Sometimes replacements are posted on eBay. I know when I replaced mine a guy was selling his 996 and wanted to retu n his car to the original back boxes so he put his turbo me dirtied back boxes up for sale. I say turbo but what I mean is that he had fitted a bypass pipe in place to give that turbo, noisy sound. These are what I bought but only because they wer still like new.....can't quite remember the price but I think I paid around £300 in total for both sides. B en on the car now for four years. Good luck whatever you do.
