Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello all, Any idea on how to replace the fuel filter on a 996 coupe? I found where it's at.............If you remove the center plastic cover underneath the car, its right in the middle of the center console tunnel. However, the main coolant lines run right underneath it and they block access to the filter. I'm pretty sure I can get the lines disconnected, but there is no way to take it out! Looks like you might have to drop the coolant lines just to change this filter?? That can't be!! There must be some sort of trick! If anyone can "shine some light" on this task.........it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Anyone??...........Anyone?? Nobody has ever changed the fuel filter on their 996??

I don't have access to ALLDATA right now but I can look later this week, if you'll still need the help.

Here is a website I used for a DIY for the fuel filter R&R. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=7062 The hardest part is getting the car on jack stands and removing the under side plastic tray. after that it was a snap. Dennis

POST 5Original post

what year is your 996? 99-00 the fuel filter is in the tunnel under the car towards the middle of the car. the later cars don't have a serviceable filter.

POST 6Original post

I changed mine about 2 years ago. yes it is in a difficult spot, but you can get your arm up there. I remember that it was a pain to reach, and you have to maneuver around in a few different positions to get the clips on both ends out, but it is doable. I am thinking I had to use needle nose pliers or something to get one of the clips off one end.
