Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
I was surprised how high the recommended pressures were when first purchasing my 996.

Grip at the front is poor… Some folks are running 29 at the front, the bonnet sticker says 36.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The tyres, Conti SC2s on the front and PZero Rossos on the back were 31 and 37psi on the back.
Grip at the front is poor… Some folks are running 29 at the front, the bonnet sticker says 36. The wheel size is 225/40/18. I will be going Conti SC 7s shortly but just wondered if I can improve things a bit?
Hi Phil. I was surprised how high the recommended pressures were when first purchasing my 996. I run 36 front and 44 rears on Michelin Pilot Sports and they feel spot on
I have 38 all round from the door sticker on 18's with MPS5's and they feel quite "solid"
was considering dropping them by 2-3psi all round to soften the ride slightly, so surprised to see you running 44 on the rears!
The new Conti SC7s on the front at 34 psi are very grippy. I’m running 39 at the back will go up to 42 and see how it feels . Tyre technology has come a long way in 26 years I guess 36/44 was good for tyres then, will try a few options.
At least putting air in your tyres is free!
Haha, that tickled me more than it should.
I ran 32/33f and 36/37R with Michelins depending on time of year.
I tried loads and loads of pressures and found this the best balanced....for my suspension set up.
With Cup 2s it was up front 30f but still 36/37R.
Porsche are unlike other cars and only put pressures for 180mph with a full load.
I always go by the 4psi rule.
Put cold pressures and see where they are when they are hot, should be roughly 4psi more, if less than that they might need a bit air less to start with, if more than that they need more air to start with.
As soon as the rear end starts to skip about on corners I know the rear tyres are too high, as soon as the front end starts to understeer I know the front pressures are too low.
Just saw Porsche now have tyre pressure stickers for different loads and speeds.
This is a 992 sticker....
The top marker is if you are go to go to V Max, so 191mph/308kmph
Firstly with one or two people 34f and 38 rear
Or
Fully laden which is 37f and 45 rear.
We then have the same but for up to 165mph...
30f and 32r for up to two people and 34f and 38r fully laden.
Pretty amazing spread of pressures for the same car.
