Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Checked on D911 and they want £360 for a pair of resistors (wow), so will be going for an aftermarket component!
Leading evidence: 'Check on d911 and they want £360' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check on d911 and they want £360' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

In the end I replaced with OE parts and still have the R/S ones.

Hi Alex, Sorry to resurrect from so long ago, but what spec resistors did you use to replace the low-speed fan ballast?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've suspected since I bought the car 6 years ago that the coolant fans don't work. I don't use the car much, and it's never been a problem, but I really must fix them.
Start the car up cold, press the snowflake, nothing. Relays 19-22 are the fan relays, so I put 12v down all 4 of the 87 terminals, only relay 20 worked, which I think is the right hand high speed fan. The tester showed a circuit on relay 19, so I think the right hand fan ballast resistor has failed. Relays 21 and 22 showed no circuit, so I am assuming that the left hand fan motor on that side has failed, and possibly the ballast resistor as well.
Now I'm no electrician, so have I got this right, and is my assumption that relays 19 and 20 are the left hand side fan relays?
Aye, but putting 12v down the fast speed feed doesn't involve the ballast, it's direct to the motor, and the power probe showed no continuity either.
Am I correct in assuming that relays 21 and 22 are for the left hand fans? I'm a bit deaf, and I can't tell which fan is running.
I have bought 2 ballast resistors, but from Rapid Electronics, £10 cheaper than RS.
Hi Alex, Sorry to resurrect from so long ago, but what spec resistors did you use to replace the low-speed fan ballast? I just noted over the w/e that my passenger side fan does not come on low speed, but works fine on high. Driver side works both low and high so assume passenger side ballast resistor is shot. Checked on D911 and they want £360 for a pair of resistors (wow), so will be going for an aftermarket component! Thank you!
