Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Yes looks the same as yours, so I have already replaced the stepper motor and it just behaves exactly the same, so that is not a fix.
Leading evidence: 'Replace stepper motor and it just behaves exactly the same' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check motor' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

I've used autotronics on a Cayenne module repair , hwo did a good job

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Has anyone had an instrument cluster repaired? I have what I imagine is a small issue where my fuel gauge doesn't return to zero when ignition is switched off. This means my fuel gauge often points to 120 on the temperature scale. With a new cluster about £2k I don't want to go that route obviously, with a second hand cluster the miles will be wrong. A google search show companies that say they can look at it, however I would prefer a recommendation rather than blindly sending it off.

wondering if it could just be an issue with the needle ?
a fix was to I ran the car until almost out of petrol (watching the odometer as an indicator) then refueled to full - which can then solve the problem, . I have no idea what in Porsche's electronics gets tripped up, but this "fix" used to be the go-to method. I've heard of this but never done this, as running out of fuel is an issue, cue the petrol tank
Can’t you buy a secondhand cluster and get the miles recalibrated? I know it was something that could be done years ago but it does sound a little dodgy now
Assuming it looks like mine. I expect the motor in the back has gone and I might get a donor from a gen cluster rather than lets some service company put a cheap repro motor in. Be interested in who you use in case what I do doesn’t work and have to crawl to them
I Might try this fix first, good to know autotronics is recommended. Does anyone know how many miles to a tank roughly? lol
Yes could do, would rather keep original clocks if possible.
Yes looks the same as yours, so I have already replaced the stepper motor and it just behaves exactly the same, so that is not a fix. I'm guessing the signal to power the needle down when ign. is switched off is not getting to motor.
Have you spoken to Reap Automotive Design

I used them in the past (although for a colour change) and they were very professional and reasonably priced. They’re known for their dials but they also repair, worth having a look at their website.
No, it actually needs a lack of input, but it’s not an input, it’s just T15 - ignition feed. But it’s the MCU who ‘sends’ all pointers to 0 on disconnection of T15.
Check the motor.
I just took mine apart after changing the dial face and the worm gear in the rev counter motor fell out of its housing. Just clipped it back and put it back together. It's a very easy unit to work on.
Had a few goes getting it right, I put the needle on in the wrong place so it pointed past zero, so had to pull and refit it. It's nothing too difficult.
Just to close this out for anyone searching, sent the cluster off to Autotronics came back in a few days working perfectly. They also have a nice text service keeping you updated with the progress of the repair.
I had also emailed Reap automotive, however they don't deal with repairs post 993.
If anyone stumbles across this thread, I broke a motor in mine after trying to pry it open, and replaced it with one from an old Benz (same motor). I think I paid 40 quid for the entire Benz cluster.
