Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I think that means check the ECU for engine codes on misfires, do a boost leak test, make sure the actuators aren't sticky etc and make sure MAF and lambda sensors all within acceptable parameters!
Leading evidence: 'Check ecu' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check ecu' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

They dont do Tiptronic mapping however, but not sure if this is needed or recommended for a simple ecu tune??

I wouldn't be interested in chasing big bhp numbers or changing turbos etc......any advice really appreciated

You have to remember they do come with a ferocious reputation for running costs and they are all getting old now.

Ive tuned quite a few of my previous vehicles so appreciate the importance of the car to be running healthy before turning up for any work
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi guys.
Still on the lookout for a 996 Turbo (or poss 997), and have been lookong into tunes for them. Costs seem to vary MASSIVELY however depending on vendor used. Does anyone have recommendations for a straight forward ecu tuner?
Ive seen Paramount Performance (also called Viezu) and they quote just over £500 for a Rolling Road tune and around 45-50bhp. They dont do Tiptronic mapping however, but not sure if this is needed or recommended for a simple ecu tune?? I wouldn't be interested in chasing big bhp numbers or changing turbos etc......any advice really appreciated
As a side note, the 996tt's that currently are for sale seem to have been advertised for many months......none seem to be really selling. Are sellers asking too much??
Gaz
The market as a whole is on its arse and lots of models will still be hanging around. You can sell anything if the price is right so I’m guessing people are just holding out for that one price to let it go. It would be interesting to see the performance upgrades and how useable that would be as in standard form they are plenty of fun
Does seem its just the same cars being advertised from at least summer last year when I started looking at these. Wondering if ones are asking too much or if its just no ones buying at the moment??
Wayne is the man in the UK - I intended to get my own to him. Stock car will see about 490BHP if in good health I have been told. I expect the car to feel more driveable afterwards mind you, but then it doesn't feel as if Porsche did too bad a job!
You have to remember they do come with a ferocious reputation for running costs and they are all getting old now. I think a combination of that meaning a small pool of buyers, and people holding out for what they think their car is worth, and you can see why some take an age to sell.
He's pretty clear on the website - come to him with the car in rude health and you'll walk away on time and happy! I think that means check the ECU for engine codes on misfires, do a boost leak test, make sure the actuators aren't sticky etc and make sure MAF and lambda sensors all within acceptable parameters!
yeah - its a waste of everyones time if the car is "lumpy" - hes not a service centre so best to make sure its had a good fettle first at your indie to make sure it doesnt need plugs, leads, oil etc etc - best to have yours in top fettle to get the most out of the time he spends on it
Yep that would be the case anyway. Ive tuned quite a few of my previous vehicles so appreciate the importance of the car to be running healthy before turning up for any work
Markski tuning is a very well known US based tuner. (

Obviously it's possible to work with him remotely, for swapping the maps you can buy a device from him and then he will email you a tuned map. There's a back and forth process of tweaking to get what you want.
I also have a Durametric diagnostics tool which is useful for collecting logging data for troubleshooting and further refining the tune.
Like with Wayne, your car needs to be in good health - he's very particular about there being no boost leaks.
Read up on Markski tunes and he definitely looks good
However I cant justify a spend of £1500ish on an ecu tune plus another £1200 for a TCU tune. I'll keep researching UK tuners and see what comes up. Be good to hear who ones have used here in the UK?
