Out of all the cars I've ran wires through, 996 is one of easiest.

I got an aliexpress dashcam for the wife's golf that replaces the trim around the rear view mirror.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Does anyone use a dashcam? Which one do you use? How tidy does it look once fitted? I'm considering getting one as there's been a huge uptick in accidents near where I live since post lockdown.
Not got one in my car, but in my Wife's car we have a Nextbase one. Seems pretty good - although you probably don't know how good until you have a problem...
Android headunit with ADAC camera for the porsche. Whole thing cost less than the black view.
The black view in the family wagon drained the battery and I kept getting app messages, then everything went haywire, so I need a solution for that as it's currently disconnected. It actually does switch off automatically (it talks when you turn the key) so it's obviously got a parasitic drain.
I got an aliexpress dashcam for the wife's golf that replaces the trim around the rear view mirror. It's never caused a problem, image and sound is crystal clear and easy to access the video files.
I installed this in one of my old cars

May install it in the 911
This is something I have wanted to do for a while.
I want to fit a front and rear camera, but would like the rear camera to communicate wirelessly with the front camera so does anyone have experience with such a set up?
Not sure there will be many solutions for that.
Video quality won’t be great and the rear camera would need to be quite large to have its own battery. Would also require charging.
Out of all the cars I've ran wires through, 996 is one of easiest. The inner sill is plastic and hollow with holes in it. A stiff piece of wire will allow you to thread it.

I have a 997 so not sure if same as 996, but all the upper trim panels are held on with clups - they are easy to remove but even without removing it shoudl be easy to push a cable behind them to conceal it.
997 owner here but I really like the 2 channel Blackvue cameras. You can get good deals on refurbed ones from the outlet here:
https://blackvue.co.uk/shop/outlet/dr590x-2ch-32gb-certified/
Every refurbed one I have purchased has been brand new on the face of it, just not in a retail box.
I have been really impressed with the video quality and the reliability of the cameras (there are some annoyingly twitchy ones out there). Fitting the rear camera was easy and neat. They also do £20 Conecta cable which plugs in to your ODB socket under the dash which disables the cameras if/when the battery starts to get too low in order to prevent flat battery dramas.
I'm thinking of going with the blackvue. Do you really need the rear dashcam or is the front fine? The less wiring and trim removal the better as my interior is fairly unmarked in most places.
Absolutely, yes for me anyway. These cameras are nice and small. I have the front one just behind the rear view mirror and the other one in the top corner of the rear windscreen behind me. I can't see either camera when driving. I figure that if someone if is going to back into your car in a car park it will tend to come from the front or back and actually even from the side you'll probably see them on either the front or rear camera. Someone did this to my other car a few years ago and I would never have know who did what without the rear camera. Worth it in my opinion.
I didn't have to remove any trim to install my cameras. The cables just tucked snugly behind the A pillar trim and the headliner from the front to the back and into the ODB port under the dash.
I think I'll end up getting the Blackvue drx970 2 channel. I'm going to wait until later in the year to see if it does go on sale. I've come across some very tidy installs via a firm in Nottingham.
