I doubt it's a faulty replacement actuator because a) that's unlikely and b) before I even put it in, I did not expect it to work as I had tested the voltage on the terminals and they did not seem to be doing anything.

If that's ok then bell (continuity test) between each component and also test the switch with a meter.

I'm guessing if you have access to the switches you can swap the plugs and test front on back and vice versa.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

2001 996 Turbo. I have the frunk open, with the battery fully charged, the emergency frunk release freely available to grab, the latch working perfectly and a brand new frunk release actuator part number 99651112700 fitted. But the actuator still does not work, with either the release button or the key fob. The battery has been disconnected to reset the electricals and reconnected. QUESTION: Is there any known electrical gremlin that prevents the actuator from actuating? I presume it's not the switch because I assume that would not prevent the key from actuating the actuator. I doubt it's a faulty replacement actuator because a) that's unlikely and b) before I even put it in, I did not expect it to work as I had tested the voltage on the terminals and they did not seem to be doing anything. I tested the microswitch in the latch and it appears to be detecting correctly whether or not the frunk is open. I assume there must be some relay somewhere, no? I believe there must be something because (when it is working) I believe the item actuates for a timed half a second and not for the duration that you depress the switch.

POST 2Original post

The feed goes into pins A31 (microswitch) and A33 (Actuator) of the alarm control unit. Relay appears to be within the actuator, and I can't see a clearly marked relay in the main panels for either luggage compartment release in the wiring diagrams. Hope this gives some pointers even if not help per se.

POST 3Original post

Check the fuse that is on the central locking/alarm module under the passenger seat

POST 4Original post

the bonnet might be stuck and needs adjusting ? this also can happen but rare on a 911 given how light the lid is

POST 5Original post

My guess is a fault on the alarm/locking ecu under the passenger seat. I'd start by putting a live feed from the battery straight to the lock and testing that (do all tests with the frunk open and manually lock the catch with an upturned Allen key so there's no load on the mechanism). If that's ok then bell (continuity test) between each component and also test the switch with a meter. I'm guessing if you have access to the switches you can swap the plugs and test front on back and vice versa.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 2785634

yeah that's my fear as that's where the data points. Highly irritating because the garage just changed the number plate lights so the suspicion would be they didn't remove the battery and shorted the ECU. Good point re checking continuity of wires.

POST 7Original post

Quotes source post: 2785788

Would you really disconnect the battery to change a number plate light (I'm assuming you mean holder, not just a bulb)? The loom section just goes back to a plug. Ignition off would be a more than adequate precaution. No link between rear lights/number plate lights and the alarm ECU.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
