Symptoms seem to suggest immobiliser module ok (checked fuse - fine)
Leading evidence: 'Check fuse - fine)' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'alarm module' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check fuse - fine)' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I've disconnected my radio cable on purpose so the beep serves as confirmation that I locked the car.

Will give the hair dryer a go and inspect the box (did have it out when I changed the seats to check the fuse and seemed dry as a bone then).

Suspected cause
Your fob is transmitting as it should, so it's most likely the alarm module.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Morning all.
I know central locking/alarm issues have been discussed ad nauseam on here but I've read them ALL can't find anything that fits my issue....
Got a 996.1 C4 cab. Came with one key.
Remote locking has never worked (new battery, "reset" tricks all tried) but red LED gives one short flash when pressed
Key works fine in lock to lock/unlock/start car
BUT
Key will lock both doors/fuel filler flap but a single short horn beep sounds and interior lights come back on briefly before fading off
Key will only unlock both doors/filler flap if I unlock again within a minute
After a minute alarm goes into "sleep" mode and only the driver's door unlocks. I then need to turn key in ignition before the alarm goes off (I get another beep warning and interior lights flash). I can then take key out of ignition, back in door lock and turn to unlock again and it will open remaining door/flap.
Both door windows are dropping as desired when activated by the interior/exterior door handles
Cab roof lock sensor is ok as rear windows operating (I have hard top installed)
Fuel filler flap wasn't connected - reconnected that and is working ok
No lights on dash to suggest engine compartment lid/bonnet open
New car battery, fully charged
Symptoms seem to suggest immobiliser module ok (checked fuse - fine)
I have an iCarsoft diagnostic tool - doesn't tell you a lot but not getting any error codes from the alarm system
Anything I've missed?
Thanks
Where are you Benny? Sounds like a problem with the key and the control unit - I had somewhat similar (but not identical) problems when my fob failed - it's happened across both my 996s now.
The reason I ask where you are, is that Boyd at PixelsFixed in East Kilbride is expert on this stuff, and can supply and code fobs as well. I'm sure there is someone down south who does similar, but not sure who.
Thanks nebpor, I have emailed them. Hoped there might be something I was missing that I could fix - and didn't want to spend money trying to code new fobs if there was an error somewhere else.... but looks like that's going to be the route to go down.
Your other symptoms are unusual AFAIK and point to an issue with the alarm module under the passenger seat (you have a cab so possible water ingress has damaged it). But this can also be because the central console compartment is open, or the radio security cable is disconnected. I've disconnected my radio cable on purpose so the beep serves as confirmation that I locked the car.
When you say key gives short flash, do you mean even if you keep it pressed it doesn't keep flashing? Because it's meant to keep flashing for the unlock button
Thanks! I'll check the centre console and stereo (it's a new Pioneer head unit). I need to make sure it's connected? What does it look like?
Yes - led continuously flashes rather than solid illumination
Sounds like centre glovebox might be part of the problem. Once you've eliminated that, get a hair dryer and give under the passenger seat a proper good blast for half hour to ensure there's no condensation/moisture in the alarm unit. Also, you can easily remove the torx bolts that hold the passenger seat down and tilt the seat back. You can remove the cover off the alarm unit and see if the circuit board is dry and clean. Don't think it'll be faulty, just dampness causing havoc.

For the centre console compartment it's a bit trickier, you'd have to remove the central console and see if the brown cable going to the lock is connected.
In general as I said this is actually a net positive (you get a beep to inform you you've actually locked the car), so not the source of your troubles. Your fob is transmitting as it should, so it's most likely the alarm module. Alex's advice above is good on how to approach that. Feel the carpet as well to see if it's damp. Fingers crossed you can salvage it otherwise you're looking at a big bill since you need to source a new unit and code new keys
Thanks guys. Centre console isn't locking when I lock the car. Still getting same issue if I manually lock it then lock the car. Could be the microswitch then? I actually replaced the whole centre console around a month ago - did remember to plug the wire back in (and had the same issue before anyway).
Will give the hair dryer a go and inspect the box (did have it out when I changed the seats to check the fuse and seemed dry as a bone then).
And will whip the stereo out and have a look at that too.
You need to get a PIWIS diagnostic check at a main dealer or indy who has it. There are many inter-connected issues including the door lock, microswitches in the door etc.
Without PIWIS you are blindly shooting in the dark.
