My question for the brain trust is, did I misdiagnose the original problem as being with the Pax door lock module and should have replaced the driver's door module instead?

I hear you and I did see your admonition to only use the P part, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to try the used VW part.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My 75k miles Lapis blue 996 which I've owned for 5 years, is starting to have some issues with the central locking system. Basically, the central locking switch will light up at random, will not switch off when I try to manually activate it and will not lock the pax door with the key or the fob. I've pulled the alarm module from under the driver's seat and found no evidence of water damage, the board looked pristine. I cleaned the grounding point while I was in there. The battery is new. My scanner shows 61 and 47 codes. My eManualsonline WSM is next to worthless in trying to figure out how to continue the diagnosis. Can someone in the brain trust point me in the right direction here? What is the next logical step? My thanks for the help. Jesse

I'll cut to the chase... your locking mechanism on the passenger door is malfunctioning. You need to replace with a Porsche genuine OEM lock actuator. Make sure you get the passenger side part! As a side note, if the immobilizer was bad or malfunctioning, you wouldn't be able to start the car.

POST 3Original post

Door latch replacement. And only get the correct OEM Porsche door latch. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...-detailed.html

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Perfect gents. I appreciate the help very much. Jesse

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

To report my progress on the problem, I found a used pax door lock module on ebay (a VW part number 3D11837016) made the modification to it as laid out by Peter Ogden in a post pointed out in the thread DBJoe996 gave me (post #3). I installed it without issue, but I still have the original problem as well as a code 12 door lock module error. My question for the brain trust is, did I misdiagnose the original problem as being with the Pax door lock module and should have replaced the driver's door module instead? Also, does the code 12 now tell me that the replacement used module is bad electrically? Any help is appreciated. Cheers--Jesse

POST 6Original post

Sorry, many rennlisters have tried the VW part and ended up in the same place. That's why I said get an OE Porsche door latch. I know it is expensive but there really is no way to cheat the system. I had a problem with my drivers side door latch, it would not unlock, and I bit the bullet, ordered the Porsche part and never looked back. Original latch worked for twenty years so I figure a new latch will work for another 20 years, and by then I'll be dead and long gone.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I hear you and I did see your admonition to only use the P part, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to try the used VW part. Do you think it's the pax door actuator that's the problem based on my symptoms? Thx for your help Jesse
