Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'door lock' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'door lock' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check alarm module tomorrow as light is fading' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Trickle charging/maintaining whilst it will show a decent charge on a voltmeter will not make up for a battery that can't keep the charge once disconnected from the charger.

My guess would be water ingress if all was ok before driving in heavy rain, have you lifted carpets and checked for water under there, also check bottom of door cards for damp, this could point to the membrane being compromised

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Freinds, the sunshine encouraged me to get my 996.2 out for a trip out to collect kids from university. It performed well even in torrential rain. I got home parked up and all was well. At 3.50am, the alarm went off waking me and most of the village. Then it went off again at 4.10am, so I gave up and went out, unlocked the car and opened the drivers door and shut it. I left it unlocked and returned to a peaceful sleep.
I have a basic code reader, but understand that there is a more complex reader that will tell me what is causing the alarm to go off. It’s not practical to leave it unlocked.
Does anyone have a fancy code reader around the Wiltshire, Berkshire area? I’m happy to meet somewhere and gift a breakfast to anyone who can help.
Thanks all. I appreciate your help.
No 'beep' on locking and everything is shut.
I will check the alarm module tomorrow as light is fading today. I will have to remove the fire extinguisher bracket from the front of the passenger seat and then check the module. I will also check the tilt sensor and area around the battery. You might be onto something here as the car steamed up when i drove in the torrential rain last night.
The battery has been on a ctek charger for over two months. I will see if i can buy a battery tester from Amazon or similar.
I will report back tomorrow.

£5 says your battery is on the way out. The system sees low voltage as a trigger for the alarm. Trickle charging/maintaining whilst it will show a decent charge on a voltmeter will not make up for a battery that can't keep the charge once disconnected from the charger. At
Next option would be that the back-up battery on the siren is failing causing a low voltage in that circuit, which is also an alarm trigger.
The other option that I've had three times over nearly 8 years (and bear with me here) is a spider dropping down or building a web close to the internal cabin motion sensors causing a trigger.
This link above is to a VAG based system code reader, 996 isn't a VAG system so I'm not certain it would be able to read the alarm module, unless others can report otherwise.
Agreed but to caveat the above I think Rav said that he keeps the car on a CTEK,so battery problems might not be highlighted plus the car shouldn’t steam up if the cabin is dry, this all points to water ingress to me.
You don't use the software that comes with the reader, you just need the chip. You use a PIWIS 3 instance in a VM with it. Works perfect, I have it myself as have many others
Update from a very cold driveway in Wiltshire.
I bought a battery tester which arrived yesterday. Where would we be without Amazon Prime?
"Top Don" says.....
I recall buying this battery around a year ago when i first bought the car. I spent extra on the best i could afford. The car had a 'beep' on locking and the alarm would go off randomly. I traced this to the drivers side door module and replaced this. I thought it was all fixed.....
Checking in here, I noted some water, i unblocked some of the rubber drains.
Under the passenger seat seems dry, but i found all sorts of detritus down there. How do you get the seats out? The back of the runners looks easy enough, but the plastic covers on the fronts of the runners looks a bit more complex.
Anything obvious?
Evening young man, could you not have used your Icarsoft reader for the battery?
Re the seats, the plastic covers just clip off and the bolts are easily accessible.
Give me a shout if you need a hand
