I suspect that parts of the dash would need to be removed and the leather resealed with a suitable glue.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

I'm sure I've seen a similar issue fixed on one of the numerous TV car shows (CAR SOS / the cars the star / Wheeler dealers etc...) its a leather retrimmers somewhere in the Midlands!

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi I'm hoping to buy 996. I found one and it's fantastic except for the fact the leather is coming away from the dash board ( bubbling up /wrinkles). It's a shame as the it spoils what is great interout.Has anyone experienced this?Any ideas on repair or replacement required? Any ideas ?? thanks julian

POST 2Original post

If you have time, then it would not be that difficult to achieve yourself. I suspect that parts of the dash would need to be removed and the leather resealed with a suitable glue. However, dash removal can be tricky as components become brittle over time and may break (dash components tend to be expensive for what they are in relative terms). YouTube is a great way to pick up tips - there are plenty of leather trimming examples and you can buy 'trim/dash' tools quite cheap on ebay. Porsche Post may have ads for this type of work, if you do not want to take on the task - the cost is usually labour for pretty simple fix that puts most buyers off.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Tony Thanks so much for the advice. I've never seen that on 996s . I will certainly research your advice so thank you . regards julian

POST 4Original post

Hi Julian iI know it’s a while since you posted the dashboard repair question. Just wondered if you bought the car and got it sorted as I have a 996 with the same issue. Thanks David.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi David I didnt buy it in the end. I was advise the only way was to take the dash out and have it recovered with new leather. For some people ( maybe even most) would live with it but for me it would bother me everytime I got in the car. 996 is a fantastic car but I have boxster now without leather package. Regards Julian

POST 6Original post

ok no worries and thanks for getting back to me. I don’t fancy removing and recovering the dash so will see if there could be another easier fix. Best regards David

POST 7Original post

Hi, My 2001 996C4 dashboard top has the same problem with lifted leather. I'm sure I've seen a similar issue fixed on one of the numerous TV car shows (CAR SOS / the cars the star / Wheeler dealers etc...) its a leather retrimmers somewhere in the Midlands! Once I figure out which series it was I shall watch them all (any excuse) and take a visit! The fix seemed to involve slitting the leather (maybe filling with an expanding foam?) and regluing and a heat gun, but I don't fancy doing it myself without a bit more knowledge! Gary

POST 8Original post

Hi Gary Let me know if you manage to find someone who can fix it and likely cost. Cheers David
