Now I know I should have disconnected the battery first but stupidly didn't so now after refitting I now have airbag light up which I realise must have something to do with the pre tensioners on the front belts which I had to disconnect.

Am also in the middle of changing high pressure hose for the power steering located in engine bay.

Thankyou, that's a very kind offer but unfortunately I'm Maidstone Kent and although I'd happily use the excuse for a drive out the Mot is now overdue until I can get this cleared.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hoping someone can help here or it's a trip to main dealer from what I've learnt so far. Last year I removed seat belts front and rear and sent them away to have the webbing changed to red. The company I used had a stand at the simply Porsche event held at Beaulieu last year and after chatting with them about it decided they were the way to go. Now I know I should have disconnected the battery first but stupidly didn't so now after refitting I now have airbag light up which I realise must have something to do with the pre tensioners on the front belts which I had to disconnect. Local garage managed to clear 2 faults but there are still one fault for either side. Is this Porsche specific ie only they can clear it or do you think I may have damaged something . Fault codes left showing are 22 and 24. 32 and 34 were cleared ok. Car is 2004 C4S Thanks in advance Simon

POST 2Original post

Fault code 22 (Driver's side) and 24 (Passenger Side are caused by: Incorrect coding of airbag control unit Bad wiring between airbag CU and seat belt tensioner Seat Belt tensioner faulty Airbag control unit faulty You need a PST2 or PIWIS tester to check the coding. It isn't impossible that it has lost the coding. The wiring is another possible, but unlikely fault, especially being both sides. However, are you sure the connectors are locked in on both sides? The lock mechanism on the plug is fairly fragile, and if the plug doesn't lock in properly it won't connect. Porsche sell the plugs as a replacement item, so there is obviously a need for them! To check the seat belt tensioners, you can remove both plugs and insert 2.8 ohm resistors, which will simulate the tensioner. If you can then clear the codes and reset the airbag light, then you know the problem is with the tensioner. If it still won't reset, you know it is the triggering unit.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Richard. Thank for the speedy response. I did double check connections ie the orange clips on the plugs were fully locked in home position. They certainly weren't damaged and clicked in positively. Will seek out someone with the readers you suggested and let you know how I get on. Am also in the middle of changing high pressure hose for the power steering located in engine bay. Awkward isn't a strong enough word.

POST 4Original post

If you are anywhere near me (Maidenhead, Berkshire) I would be happy to plug mine in for you.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thankyou, that's a very kind offer but unfortunately I'm Maidstone Kent and although I'd happily use the excuse for a drive out the Mot is now overdue until I can get this cleared. I'm working on it and have a number of a local guy that is supposed to be an expert in this field. Will call and see if he has either of the readers you mentioned. Thanks again and I'll keep you updated Simon

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just an update with the original fault on this post. The lock mechanism (orange clip)on each plug (green) for the front seatbelt pretensioners Richard mentioned in his reply were both in the unlocked position. I hadn't slid them back across after I'd plugged back in. They apparently are for antistatic as well as locking. Many thanks for replies and suggestions. They guy who reset the fault was a friend of a friend and works the south east Kent area if any of you in that area needs a mobile auto electrician. Can give you his number if needed. Looking at a possible remap now to improve throttle response. Watch this space[8|] Simon
