Suggestion
If using steel studs / nuts I’d be inclined to treat the nuts as a service item and change every couple of years.

Suggestion
I have bought a stud set (studs/ bolts/ washers) from Matt at TDF - all fine.

Toyosports do a cheaper Chinese set for around £140, I know folks who've used them and found they're adequate, but for my money (and experience) the set referred to above is my personal preference.

These ones work well - had 2 sets, first set on my 996.1 Tip, second on my 996.2 Tip - others have used them and generally highly praise quality (good quality stainless) and fit.

Suggestion
Hi again, regarding my past experience with penetrating oils, I have some antique stuff with graphite ( in a holey tin !) and have started to apply this to the studs in expectation, using a childs paintbrush.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Ti studs are great - but also new steel ones fixed with copper flashed nuts are another good (and cheaper!) option.
Best.

My exhaust system is badly corroded – particulary the bolting flanges are turning to dust
– so I doubt I could get a level bolting pressure if I put the old stuff back on.
[FONT=calibri"]So I’m looking for a stainless steel replacement. The car is a 996, 2003 gen2, Carrera2, Targa, Tiptronic, RHDrive.
[FONT=calibri"]
Firstly, looking at the "budget” manifold/header internet offers (at under £200) one or two say in the adverts "not suitable for Tiptronic” but they don’t know why (or are simply too lazy to explain). I’ve emailed four suppliers but none will say what the problem might be?
Any ideas ?
[FONT=calibri"]
Secondly, looking at the silencers (again, budget offers under £600). Like everyone, I want a ‘raspier’ sound, but not permanently annoying the neighbours, or me on a long journey. I don’t have the switchable system so they must be MOT legal too.
I’ve read that some (even ‘good’ brands like Dansk) can be flakey – brittle welds/internal rattles/sagging bracketry etc). Any ideas/recomendations please ?
[FONT=calibri"]Finally, during research I’ve found good opinions about switching to Titanium studs and K-Nuts as replacement for standard hex bolts into the cylinder heads. But where to get these? I’ve tried contacting
[FONT=calibri"]www.porschetistuds.co.uk
[FONT=calibri"] but nothing – no address/phone/names on their website, and "mail delivery failed” bounce-back on both email addresses -
[FONT=calibri"][email removed]
[FONT=calibri"] and
[FONT=calibri"][email removed]
[FONT=calibri"]
...so I assume they are defunct or a scam ?
Anyone know a reliable seller ?
[FONT=calibri"]Apologies if this has all been covered. I’m not good with these forums - I never seem to get any search results ?
[FONT=calibri"]Many Thanks

Many thanks JuliusF. That's a good account of the German Carsolution_de against the Toyosports (the latter I had looked at but they refused to say whether they were suitable for Tip models ??). Infuriating ! That swings it to the Carsolution_de. I notice on their Ebay advert they say "make an offer". Sorry to be such a blouse - I don't really understand this - do they really mean just offer a random amount to see if they will reduce the price ?
I like the suggestion too for stainless studs and copper nuts...but can you get the required torque with copper nuts ?
Thanks again. Regards.
I've always just paid the price they ask - you can make them an offer if you want I suppose, but they're really not expensive in the first place, and I found their service really good arriving within a couple of days.
The nuts are steel, copper coated, so yes you can torque them up no problem.

Poppopbangbang over on pistonheads makes the TI stud kits - not cheap but excellent quality. He runs a historic (v10 era) F1 support company in Bedford.
This is one of jobs for me to tackle this winter! I have bought a Stomski jig in readiness in the vain hope having the right tool means the bolts will come out OK!
If using steel studs / nuts I’d be inclined to treat the nuts as a service item and change every couple of years.

This is interesting.
JuliusF - has my wife been telling you how cheap I am ? Ha Ha.
To be fair, before I read your reply about the meaning of the 'Make them an offer' button on Ebay I had already gone on their
www*gm-carsolution*de
Ebay page and thought I'll give it a try - so I put in an offer of £160 for the pair of manifolds - against their 'buy it now' price of £175.44. I immediately got a positive reply - within seconds ! So I've got the manifolds, including pp delivery, for £175.33. They couldn't possibly have had time to even look at my offer so I reckon they must have a lower price limit automatically set up with Ebay. Result !......but I do feel a bit ashamed.
This is interesting too – re titanium studs. Doing Internet search last night, actually looking for a stainless studs package, but came across Titan Classics of Kidderminster (
https://titanclassics.com
). Got 12 studs (Grade 5 titanium 6Al/4V – as Poppopbangbang on PistonHeads suggests) for £43.70. They have an Ebay page for this but I found they have a 5% discount code for orders placed directly on their own website – and free delivery too. God – I am cheap.
I have bought a stud set (studs/ bolts/ washers) from Matt at TDF - all fine. He does get very busy and I think he makes them in batches so may not always have some available. I think he posts on 911UK (PPBB as Ian says) when they are imminent - but am probably wrong as usual. He is also in the 996 group on Facebook.
Hi 'Home James'. Have you fitted the Manifolds from
www*gm-carsolution*de
yet ?? I have seen on fleabay some others (not the German ones) as cheap as this and they have negative feedback regarding fit and flimsy material ?? Although must admit those ones look good.
Hi 'pheasant'. Sadly, I haven't fitted the manifolds yet. I've had such a struggle to get the original manifolds off - what I gather is the usual problem with bolts shearing off leaving the thread inside the aluminium casing. Its made worse because it's impossible to get penetrating oil into the threads - against gravity. So I, and a local garage, have tried drilling out the stumps but still got three more to go.
The new stainless manifolds from
www*gm-carsolution*de
arrived promptly and visually they look great - good looking welds. Just offered up to the casing on the passenger side they seem to align ok. The only other observation I have is that the new manifolds are much lighter than the originals - probably only half the weight. I assume this is entirely the difference in material thickness - so I'll be keeping the originals just in case.
Another point I never got to the bottom of - the manifolds for Tiptronic vehicles are said to be different in some way ? I emailed Porsche UK to ask what is the difference but they replied they can only comment on original Porsche parts. Dead end. So until I get the new manifolds fitted I don't know if they will align properly with the new silencers and if something to do with the Tip architecture interferes with the pipes.
Also, not sure what to do about the gaskets. The original Porsche gaskets which came off are thin pressed stainless forms, contoured to suit the various openings - highly engineered and with negligible thickness. But the gaskets supplied with the new manifolds are 'traditional' thick slightly squashy type. Don't know which ones to fit - would welcome opinions please.
Hi again, regarding my past experience with penetrating oils, I have some antique stuff with graphite ( in a holey tin !) and have started to apply this to the studs in expectation, using a childs paintbrush. Seems to gets absorbed nicely.
Also, somewhere on this site, (could even be the Ti studs man) someone has a jig for hire for drilling out studs.
This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
