Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Clean source' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean source' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Something containing procedures for most common regular maintenance and repair, preferably with photos, including proper fluid quantities, torque values, etc.?

(2005–2008 Boxster/Cayman), which includes full torque specs fluid capacities wiring diagrams and service procedures very similar to what dealers use just not as polished as Haynes.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Is there a Mechanic's (Service) Manual for 987s available to the public? Something containing procedures for most common regular maintenance and repair, preferably with photos, including proper fluid quantities, torque values, etc.? Something like those
Haynes
manuals I remember using for my '86 RX-7 ages ago?

There is factory-supplied information at:
www.alldatadiy.com
It isn't as complete as I'd like, and the image quality leaves something to be desired, but the price is right, and it's better than nothing.
Thanks for that link. Sounds very interesting. The price is not bad at all, but would love to hear some feedback/comments on the quality and accuracy of the information. Have they just copied the official
Porsche
service manual (pdf?) or have they had someone (third party) go through the various procedures and take pictures in the process (like
Haynes
and other manuals)?
Z.
Not aware of where this comes from but just in case we do not support or allow references to copyright violations of
Porsche
's material. (or any other copyright issues as well)
ALLDATA
seems to be a legitimate business. I've been a subscriber for years on various cars. They compete with Mitchell and other providers to independent shops, and the information is from
Porsche
itself. The site I posted is the DIY (do it yourself) version, which costs A LOT less than the pro version.
I'm guessing that because you own a 2008
Cayman
you tried to select that model year. My apologies; I forgot to mention that
Porsche
has only released information to ALLDATADIY through 2006. Luckily, all 987 Gen1s are large identical, so a 2006
Cayman
is largely identical to a 2008. Try 2006.
Anyone know how closely the Bentley manual for the
986
applies to the 987? I have an '05
Boxster S
, I'm guessing a lot of the procedures are similar if not exactly the same. Could be useful in solving some maintenance problems, torque values, etc.
There was a user over on RennTech that I remember hearing about that had full manuals for 987's.. I've been tempted to purchase one but have been too busy with other items
I believe his username was
Porsche
Librarian or something to that effect.
Check out Motorbooks.com. Recently saw a title in one of their catalogs about
Boxster
maintenance. Seemed to be written for DIY types. I seem to recall that author was Bennett (not certain about one or two 'n's and one or two 't's).

I won't make any claims as to the quality etc. of the CD but
Amazon
has a
Cayman
repair manual for around $35. I have it but haven't used it yet, did a very short look around when I first got it. It appears to be a "
Porsche
" repair manual. I suppose you could return it if it doesn't meet your standards.
I have a CD entitled "
Porsche
Factory Repair Manual"
Porsche Cayman S
2005 to 2008, by Lincolnshire Publishers (LS desktop repair manuals). Seems pretty complete and also includes owners manuals etc. Good quality PDF files.
Found several downloadable copies at (nevermind. can't vouch for the legality although the site says its legal and saw one of the other threads where they pulled the link - its on the internet so it must be true, right?)
From what I have seen, the main issue is that
Porsche
moved most 987 service info to digital systems, so printed DIY-style
workshop manuals
are either limited or outdated, making torque specs and procedures harder to access reliably. Best practical fix is using a legit subscription like ALLDATA or an authorized factory CD/manual, since they’re the closest thing to dealer-level info and usually more accurate than random PDFs. In my experience working on similar Euro cars, having the proper service data saves a lot of guesswork and broken clips/bolts, so I agree with the discussion starter—Haynes-style simplicity just doesn’t really exist for these cars anymore.
The main issue with the 987
Boxster/Cayman
service manuals is that
Porsche
never widely released a single “
Haynes
-style” public workshop book, so owners end up piecing together PDFs, factory extracts, or Bentley-style compilations instead of one clean source with photos and step-by-step procedures. The most reliable solution is to use an OEM-derived 987
workshop manual pdf
(2005–2008 Boxster/Cayman), which includes full torque specs fluid capacities wiring diagrams and service procedures very similar to what dealers use just not as polished as Haynes. Good versions usually come as complete PDF workshop sets and cover everything from routine maintenance to full engine and suspension work. From my own experience working on a 987 Cayman the manuals are accurate but dense so I always paired them with forum DIY threadsespecially for interior trim and coolant system jobs where the diagrams alone don’t show the how it actually comes apart” part clearly.
This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
