My 2010 CS2 has had a few windshields changed due to cracks and chips .

I wasn't familiar with that method before, but after learning about it, it makes sense why it's used for these kinds of parts.

That being said - I also DO HAVE a chip in my windshield - as per previous poster, is it safe to assume that the trim rubber piece would be replaced when a new windshield is installed?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm having a hard time finding the part number for this and where to buy it....
It's the rubber seal that goes between the Wiper Cowl Panel and the windshield itself.
It's brittle and needs to be replaced.
Thanks so much!
I should have added - I have checked with
SunCoast
and with
Pelican Parts
online parts catalogues - haven't been able to "see" the exact part I'm looking for anywhere.
Thought I would start here before heading to dealership for information.
Thanks!
I did a few windshields before specialty shops became ubiquitous, but I had a master mechanic guiding me. I would put this repair in the same category as replacing canvass on your own top frame. It's a job that only yields to perfection after many journeyman hours. If it was my ride I'd farm that out. Perhaps one of those shops can do just the gasket, you can't be the first one with nice glass and a bad seal and it's difficult to imagine every seal failure requires a new windshield. I'd certianly check with a place like safelight on how they handle gasket failures on
Porsche
cars.
The "seal" is part of the whole wiper cowl panel. You have to replace the whole thing and its a fairly easy job you can do in the driveway. PCA has a good youtube video on their channel that walks you through the steps

When replacing the cowl plastic - one end has a nut with a washer attached. This is a special design, made to secure the cowl from lifting, but allowing that end to move horizontally. The reason to allow that movement is to provide for the expansion and contraction of the cowl plastic panel due to temperature changes. Watch how you take it apart - and then reinstall it exactly the same. I seem to recall it being the port side (drivers side on US cars.)
FWIW -
Porsche
does sell this rubber trim piece for the
986
and 996 series cars.. if someone parks
next
to a
986
and has a tape measure it would be interesting to see if the
986
piece might be used with a 987...
Part Number: 99657293100 - $17-20 depending on the vendor. Then see if it will fit with our cowl.

I know Porsche used to offer this gasket as a separate part since I was going to order one about 2 years ago, just as a spare. Never did. So...
Thanks for all this info Don....much appreciated.
My preference would be to just buy the rubber piece - and not the cowl piece as mine is in fine shape. That being said - I also DO HAVE a chip in my windshield - as per previous poster, is it safe to assume that the trim rubber piece would be replaced when a new windshield is installed?
The bits circled in blue are the special nut/washer/etc arrangement that's done so the cowl plastic can expand and contract without warping away from the windshield. Note the order - it has to be that way...
I suspect that it is the windshield gasket that dried out from age. My 2010 CS2 has had a few windshields changed due to cracks and chips . The new OEM
Porsche
windshield glass comes from the factory with the rubber gasket already permanently attached to the entire outer edge.It is the only glass available.
I always use the Safelight dealer here in Daytona Beach on Nova Road.
Good Luck.
I had a similar issue with my car last year—one of those rubber seals between the windshield and cowl. It was getting brittle, and I was worried about leaks if it wasn’t replaced. I ended up finding a replacement part from a local supplier, but they did mention that it’s often made through
rubber compression molding
, which is a process that helps ensure a tight, durable fit.
I wasn't familiar with that method before, but after learning about it, it makes sense why it's used for these kinds of parts. Since I'm new on this forum, just wanted to share that tidbit and see if it might help!
For a 2009 Boxster 987.1, that seal is called the windshield cowl seal. Try searching part number 987 559 243 00 but confirm with your VIN at a dealer. Good sources are FCP Euro, Pelican Parts, and the Porsche dealer online parts counter. ******** classifieds are also worth checking for unused spares at a lower price.
