Are the 3.8L headers the same as the headers used on the 3.4L
cayman
?
Looking up the part numbers for both would probably determine whether the answer is yes or no.
No they are different.

Neil! Way to go monitoring the site. If you aren't careful you may end up with some business. Thanks for your technical expertise.
Neil,
I have a question here. I know that the factory headers are different for the
Cayman
and 3.8 997 because the exhaust systems are different. However, the 3.8L engine and the 3.4L engine have the same engine heads and block, only the internal bore is different. Why would this require headers being different for the
Cayman
if you tossed in a 3.8L motor? Is the motor sitting in the car differently for some reason???
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">The primary tubes and the ports are the same size 3.4
Cayman
& 3.8 S even the exhaust flanges are the same size. The difference is that the flanges are not in the same place where they bolt up to the rest of the exhaust. In theory you could use the 3.8 S headers but you would then have to fabricate the rest of the exhaust system<o

Neill, I get what you are saying in terms of the FACTORY headers being different from the
Cayman
vs. 997, as your pic shows the 997 is on the left, the
Cayman
is on the right.
What I was asking is that if you fabricate a set of headers for the 3.4L
Cayman
, that you SHOULD be able to dump in a 3.8L engine into the
Cayman
and use the SAME headers. I was not suggesting that you could use the 3.4L
Cayman
headers in the 997. Am I making sense now?
In essence if you have a set of headers for the
Cayman
it doesn't matter what engine is in the
Cayman
, the 3.4, 3.6 or 3.8, the header still work because they are fabricated for the
Cayman
correct?
Ken you are correct. If you fabricated a set of headers for the 3.4
Cayman
and then later dropped a 3.8 in yes you could use the same headers.
