They ended up replacing an air con pipe but managed to damage the plastic scuttle panel and mark the driver’s wing and they didn’t even tell me.

A SRS is an interesting one, as Mayfair looked at the numbers for me a few months back when all this was brewing (on new and used), but as the car lives outside the roof is questionable, as is it being enough of a change 'up' for me.

I wouldn't be going back to that other dealer for servicing though, I'd go out of my way to go elsewhere, I had issues with JCT in Leeds so I used Bolton who were another 20 miles away but they were great and I refused to give JCT the work.

These cars are built to be used and it’s great when you read stories of the 150k+ miles in a gt3 that’s crossed continents or the 987 Spyder that’s used daily and done 120k no problems.

I do feel and i fully understand your pain as mentioned before after 3.5 years i needed a new engine due to catastophic failure on christmas eve of all days and subsequently a new engine. But i did go on to buy another 3 new Porsches. At least you will get a full refund for your woes which has to be a positive in my book and you are not thousands of pounds out of pocket like i know some have found themselves when things go wrong.
Like you i have bought cars in the past and treated as garage queens doing only a few k a year but as mentioned on other post i now buy cars that i drive everyday which i find so much more rewarding. So going forward get yourself a fun car that you can drive more often and dont let this terrible experience put you off Porsche cars. But what i will say is the customer care and buying experience at Porsche has really gone down the pan over last 5 + years.
After 3 yrs, my 718 GT4 ownership is coming to a totally unexpected and abrupt end
After what can only be described as a "farcical and calamitous" 5+ mths with Porsche GB, Porsche Financial Services, and my local OPC, I'm now going through a total rejection and refund process of my car with my original supplying dealer.
As some of you may remember, I specced the car myself in 2021, and took delivery in 2022. So I've owned it from new, where it's been used but also totally babied and respected i.e. engine warmed up before playing etc etc.
What started in May/June as an engine management warning being triggered when the car was under load, has eventually resulted in calamity from what I mistakingly thought would be a quick fix. My local OPC claimed it was a faulty coil pack, but immediately after me picking it up and driving away, the same EML fault happened. So I took it straight back. They had it for another week and claimed it was a faulty injector, so they replaced that... but guess what happened the moment I drove it away... yes you're right, the same EML warning trigger, so I took it back. Another week passes and they now claim it was/is a misfire so needed another new injector, but this time they also claim to have done compression tests with Porsche DE, and an oil change. I got the call to pick it up, and yes you guessed right the moment I got the car on the dual carriageway under load, the same EML warning happened.
At this point I'm pretty pissed off. So they take the car back for a 4th time. this time they claim to have replaced more coil packs and injectors, and some two months later after first dropping it off with them, my car is supposedly ready to be picked up and they assure me it's fixed. But you can already guess what happens next, this time I hadn't even got to the dual-carriageway and the same EML trigger appears. I take it back and the service manager basically tells me it's not their problem anymore, the car is taking up a ramp for paying customer, and that I need to speak to my supplying dealer.
So I nurse the car home, and it sits on my driveway over the summer unused, as I battle Porsche FS and Porsche GB.
I contact Porsche GB, to raise a complaint (and ask for help), but nobody calls me back, when they do (a week after I first logged my call) the person has no clue as to the actual issue, and is quite frankly a rude arrogant idiot. They then pass my case to somebody else who at first seems to be helpful, but she transpires to they have zero power or influence and is just following a crib sheet.
Porsche financial services on the other hand go one better (worse). The car is technically owned by them (as it's financed with them), so I am told to ring and ask for their advice. They instead put me in a holding pattern which takes a month to even get acknowledgment to my call, and another month to get any sort of response. Eventually they incorrectly treat it as a complaint. Not only do they ignore the actual problem with the car, but they reply to me saying that the car is fixed so it's not their liability and they can't help! As of today I can no longer get a response out of them and I'm told to speak to the ombudsman if I want to take it further.
Last month, as a last ditch attempt get some help, I took to emailing the Porsche UK CEO, and in 24hrs I was assigned a senior case manager who has been better, but TBH is pretty powerless, everything just gets pushed back on to my supplying dealer.
During all this my supplying dealer has been amazing. A huge shout out to Justin and Kiley at Mayfair who have chased and apologised to me and quite frankly gone above and beyond. 2 weeks ago Mayfair organised (at they own expense) for my car to be trailered to Reading for inspection. Reading service team were great (shout out to Alex there!) On their first test drive Reading unsurprisingly had the EML fault, they then did oil checks and found metal in the oil. I asked if this was new, and they said no. At this point the Gold technician working on the car said that he thought it would be mechanical failure. A few tests later and it was confirmed to me last Friday that due to excessive wear on the cylinder head, this was the reason why the fault started to be thrown up in May/June (which my local OPC unsuccessfully claimed to have fixed), actually means it needs a whole new engine, after only 3k miles of use! Porsche Germany immediately instructed them to replace the engine. Porsche GB rang me and told me I was entitled to a "refund" (even after 3yrs!), but I needed to work with Mayfair to process that.
So at this point, the car feels tainted. The problem has been cited as a manufacturing process problem with thengine. But the whole experience with Porsche GB, after spending the best part of £100k on a new car, has left me really out-of-love with the brand.
I will say again, Mayfair have been outstanding. They have share the same levels of sympathy and exasperation as I have, and although they are doing their best to try and get me into another Car (4RS, SRS or GT3), they totally understand why I want to walk.
So a whole summer of driving missed, and not a great end to what I thought was going to be my dream purchase.

OK, so there's Mayfair and there's Reading. Which is the local OPC and is there a reason the car wasn't bought from there?
Not sure if I can name them tbh, due to name & shame rules on here.
The car wasn't originally bought from my local OPC, because when I went in to buy one in the summer of '21, they refused to give me an allocation due to lack of buying history with them, so I could only use them for servicing.

So sorry to hear the woes with the car. I know of similar stories where a car has gone back and forth trying to rectify a reoccurring problem.
Seems to me the lack of feedback and help you were getting has added to feeling of moving on from the brand and quite right.
Remember though, even with a premium brand its possible to get what we used to call a 'friday car' which can be the case with any brand.
Spyder RS might make up for the lack of summer use once spring lands next year so would be my suggestion .
Good luck with whatever you choose and of course , wishing you better luck this time around.
Just to add- i had some dealing with Porsche UK around 10ys back over a 997GT3 that i sent back countless times to the supplying OPC and all i ever got was a customer service rep that knew nothing about the cars.
BertBert said:
It seems to have taken a really long time to have a conversation with the supplying dealer. Might that have been better at an earlier stage?
I totally agree, but in hindsight. At the time, I was indeed having a conversation in the background with my supplying dealer, but as the car was at my local OPC, and a case was open with Porsche GB/DE, the supplying dealer's hands were tied. Once the car was back in my hands I had to start all over again, and I mistakingly thought Porsche GB would give a s
t, so I gave them a chance to tell me what might happen next. When they didn't, it was at that point my supplying dealer intervened and got the car to Reading for a diagnosis.
Seems like a total run around to me from several OPC's on this unfortunately.
My GT4 suffered from the usual PADM issues and even though I could still drive it whilst I waited 2 months in the first instance for the part I was on the phone VWFS lodging a complaint. It took them some time but they did refund a decent amount for the two months wait on parts.
So your experience differs greatly from mine unfortunately, it's all about how these things are handled and it's now pushing you away from the brand understandably.
Fingers crossed whatever brand/car you move onto will be a far more pleasurable experience.
Freakuk said:

From my local OPC, Porsche GB, and Porsche FS, yes. A complete farce. They all pushed it amongst each other, with nobody taking any level of ownership, and more than anything they forgot (or worse still, didn't care) there was a customer caught in the middle of it all.
Honestly, if it hadn't been for my supplying dealer (Mayfair), I don't think I'd be any further forward than I was that day I took the car away from my local dealer.
Ignoring the 5 months pain which must have been extremely frustrating it sounds as if you have been given 2 options- brand new engine foc with presumably a new warranty applying or your original money back with no deductions for time /mileage ie a full refund ?
Again ignoring the pain I would say that is actually quite good service from Porsche and given you pretty much a free car for the last 3 years.
If you went for the cash I presume any dealer would be happy enough to take that ( perhaps with a suitable further discount ) on a brand new something.

Yup, a new engine foc, or a full invoice calculated refund (with milage adjustment). I've opted for the latter.
Curious, how they'd calculate the refund. Would that be similar to a loss adjuster doing his thing or do they use a formula?
A miserable experience that may end well for you fortunately. Never did rate Porsche GB and considered them as a glorified mailbox for the UK operation. They'd mediate etc but do little else unless you take formal steps. Bit sad really.

I feel for you but would have made the same decision I think.
I’m not sure I would discount buying something else from Porsche though especially as prior to this everything I’ve ever read from you about your car has been favourable.
I fell out with my Porsche ownership purely because my local dealer refused to sell me want I wanted as I clearly wasn’t nearly important enough or hadn’t spent enough - 6 brand new cars including 4 911’s notwithstanding but that’s a bit different.
I am really sorry to hear. I remember your collection day and the lovely python green spec.
I collected my car from Mayfair and yes, reading deal with all the servicing etc. Mayfair are quite reasonable and I hope your calculated refund goes to plan as valuation values are dire.
On a positive note, you have the option of a merc GTR or Mclaren (well that is my next option out of the Porsche network)
kmpowell said:

Although its been a lot of hassle you have two very good alternative outcomes, if it was me and you loved the car as much as you say you did i would go for the new engine option, when i got a new engine it came with all new ancillaries and 2 year factory warranty and i kept for a further 2+ years. Keep it for a few more years and you probably be not a lot worse worse off financially.

The equivalent of £100,000 three years ago (around late 2021) is approximately £122,400 today (late 2024/early 2025), based on UK inflation data.
Therefore their calculations on mileage adjustment should factor that in.
Furthermore:
Breach of contract / breach of statutory rights: The car was not of satisfactory quality or fit for purpose, as required under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, s9 10. Given the early onset of the problem (engine defect traced back to manufacturing), the defect clearly existed from new. Even though more than 6 months had passed, under CRA 2015:
The burden of proof shifts to you after 6 months, BUT! in this case, Porsche s own engineers confirmed it was a manufacturing defect which meets that burden.
Thus, you can demand damages for consequential loss not merely a refund.
Furthermore:
Since it was a finance agreement, you can pursue Porsche Financial Services under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 for breach of contract (same rights as against the dealer). That means:
PFS is jointly and severally liable for the car s faults. They cannot simply claim the car is fixed and wash their hands of it. If PFS dragged their feet or mishandled the complaint (as seems clear), you can escalate the case to the Financial Ombudsman, who has the power to:
Award EXTRA compensation for distress and inconvenience, and order additional financial redress (e.g. interest, costs, or reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses).
Furthermore:
A civil claim can include:
Loss of use (e.g., costs of alternative transport while the car was off the road for months).
Inconvenience and time wasted.
Depreciation or loss of resale value due to the defect history.
Possibly interest under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998 (if applicable).
= more compensation
Furthermore:
The farcical and calamitous service history and the dismissive behaviour of Porsche GB and PFS could bolster a claim for:
Breach of duty to act with reasonable care and skill, and breach of complaint-handling obligations under the FCA s Consumer Duty (for PFS).
= more compensation
You should be seeking a refund plus at least 50% as a starting point. If they say no then seek a free legal consultation and, for the costs of a few K spent in legal letters, it'll negotiate its way to more than the £100k refund you are getting. I am sure Mayfair are being all charming with their shiny suits and lattes on tap but they are protecting their relationship with HQ than with you and not steering you to the proper compensation you deserve.

But he had three good years use of it before the fault materialised….

Agreed
Sounds very frustrating but how many other manufacturers would even think about letting you reject the car over 3 years and not just offer a fix? Sounds like the dealer failing to correctly diagnose it have been very poor (there are poor dealers of course!) but the thing with Porsche they do have the infrastructure and backup to sort it out. If this was a McLaren/Lotus/JLR or really any other manufacturer you would have been battling to get anything done. Was it still in the 3 year manufacturer warranty when it went or extended warranty? Or none?
Porsche don't always get it right where engines are concerned but the whole package of being able to track it and keep it under a solid warranty up to 15 years old or whatever the OPC warranty limit is for not a lot of money makes it the best offer there is.

The first EML triggers were inside the 3yr manufacturer warranty.

Yup, a new engine foc, or a full invoice calculated refund (with milage adjustment). I've opted for the latter.
The equivalent of £100,000 three years ago (around late 2021) is approximately £122,400 today (late 2024/early 2025), based on UK inflation data.
Therefore their calculations on mileage adjustment should factor that in.

OP has already accepted the second option.
Porsche also instead of cash reimbursement offered a new engine foc.
No guarantee of any legal action gaining a penny more and won't be a quick matter either way and will almost certainly cost the OP considerable money and further pain /stress.

Absolutely - when this is all sorted that's the line I would be taking further with Porsche GB / Reviews on line on I must admit.

Yes, shocking. And FS not supporting. I would actually go with an Ombudsman action as it's free and at least will cost FS a £650 fee. A small consolation.

I will 100% be pursuing this with the Ombudsman. Utterly disgraceful treatment when all I wanted was help and trying to do the right thing. I've tried calling the case manager twice again this week to let him know the car's now being rejected and he needs to revisit the case, and each time I'm promised that he will call me back... but he never does.
In other news... a call from Mayfair, and it's a pleasant surprise/message delivered to me. For them to try and keep me in their custom/brand, they are additionally offering me a winged GT3 allocation for summer delivery. To my own spec, no conditions.
So, they will buy-back my GT4 under the refund rejection terms discussed, and instead of me taking my money to another brand, they would like me to put that money into a GT3 allocation.
A few weekends ago I went to Ferrari and test-drove a lightly used 488 GTB, which I was sold on, but this now does make me question...

To spec your own GT3 would be my preference but lovely choice to be able to make. Also im assuming GT3 the GT3 will hold value against the 488 plus prefer no turbos

I assume that winged GT3's are becoming easier to get allocations for anyway but still good marketing from them.
If your GT4 had still been unbroken would you have been looking to get into a GT3 ?

Lol, so they are inviting you to spend at least double for a new car, as part apology for your current car not working. At least you ll have some deposit with the refund. Very nice of them, lol.
I guess the question is was your next car going to be a GT3 anyway? If so happy days as long as you get a number for your GT4 that you are happy with.
Assuming it would be on finance as per your GT4 I'd look at the APR that VWFS are offering, and I'd check if you could use your own alternative finance company, assuming you are financing over 60K you'll likely fall into the regulated finance bucket and VWFS don't offer a cooling off period so you'll need a settlement figure and pay the extra.
Good work from Mayfair, get the GT3 you're not going to lose your shirt on it even if the overs market isn't what it once was, brand new spanking car to your spec just make sure you max out on what they give you back for yours pointing out the price disparity between the 2.
I wouldn't be going back to that other dealer for servicing though, I'd go out of my way to go elsewhere, I had issues with JCT in Leeds so I used Bolton who were another 20 miles away but they were great and I refused to give JCT the work.

A GT3 was always on my dream-wishlist, but given I had zero buying history (apart from the GT4), realistically I didn't think I'd ever be given an allocation. I thought a GT4/4RS would be my limit of what they would allocate me. So, yes, to answer your question, but indirectly. With that in mind, the thought of speccing a brand new GT3 is very appealing, and given the values Porsche are underwriting on the GFV's for the .2, it looks like I wouldn't loose the shirt off my back.

Curious, how they'd calculate the refund. Would that be similar to a loss adjuster doing his thing or do they use a formula?
This is what was proposed... the only money coming off the list-price refund are the OTR costs (c £2k), and £1 for every mile on the clock. So c£5k total to come off the refund amount.
Porsche FS rang me late yesterday afternoon as well, apologising and reopening my case, citing I no longer need to go to the ombudsman and they will look to "support".
So maybe this thread has been noticed in certain circles...

In which case perhaps PFS would like to assist you on the new GT3 in some modest way especially if Mayfair won't also do a little something ?
More interesting though - would you repeat the GT4 speccing experience by going for something akin ie the PTS route ?
The most surprising thing about this story is that Porsche managed to turn it around in a week on multiple occasions.
Although it's possible that they literally did just "turn it around".

Mayfair have already confirmed they will be doing some 'extra' contribution. PFS have also confirmed they will, but I'm still waiting to hear-back from them on exactly what they are going to give me after all the shenanigans.

Even though the normal colour palette is a bit crap, £10k for PTS isn't worth it, IMO, so it'll be a normal palette selection colour. Having done the green car, I'm going to go for something more traditional on the GT3. Also, apart from the buckets, I really don't see much else as being 'needed' (for me), so it'll be buckets and coloured window-dressing only. £9k for PCCB's feels a lot, but in my head I said that if I'd ever get a chance to spec my own GT3 it would immediately have buckets and PCCB's, so I'll maybe add those. There's a long long way to go on that though, so I'm not getting carried away yet.
If you’ve ever been unfortunate to own a Friday afternoon car from one of the premium brands or any brand really it can be a nightmare.
While you’re drawn in by the overall brand, you can have a bad car at a rubbish dealer (or approved service agent) a good car at a bad service agent, great back room staff or rubbish ones etc. All play a part in how you are treated regardless of the top level brand when a problem lands.
At the end of the day it’s a mass produced article to them with a bottom line of which you are maybe the 50th customer for that month, but to the buyer, it might represent all their life savings or aspirations in one purchase.
Sorry to hear of your woes, while the outcome has been long coming, it is a good one and I think you are 100% correct to move on from that car.
In your shoes, the redress advice is worth following above simply to get you closure and also maybe to prevent them passing future folks around in such a terrible way.

I mean this in the nicest possible way.
Do you actually want a new GT3, or is this just an option you’re being drawn into because of the dreadful experience you’ve had with Porsche and its dealer network?
Let’s be honest, they’re only offering you a GT3 winged slot with a discount so you don’t pursue other avenues on your claim, as these cars aren’t exactly flying off the shelves. If they were, do you really think they’d still be offering you a new 992.2 GT3 at a discount on the RRP?
P.S. My experience wasn’t as bad as yours, but my new GT4 turned up with the air con not working. I noticed it on my first drive, so they clearly hadn’t checked it properly during the PDI. They ended up replacing an air con pipe but managed to damage the plastic scuttle panel and mark the driver’s wing and they didn’t even tell me. I only spotted it myself when I went back to collect the car! The chap in customer service was excellent and did his best to sort it. But my confidence was lost with the standard of work in their workshop.
Either way I hope you get the result which is the best for you.
Good luck
I hope the discount you get on the gt3 matches what you’ll be able to get one for sub 1000 miles old. They can’t sell them like they use to be able to, the tables have turned
Heres an idea why not get them to source a new 4RS/Spyder which there are few still out there at a good price ie underlist, i think the mileage the op does the RS Spyder would be the better of the 2 a real high day and holidays (garage queen) kind of car. I love the SRS and as the Op loves tracking values then the SRS is the safer bet over a 992.2gt3 and cheaper. Some might say a better road experience with that lovely GT3 engine and roof down.
Might get myself a SRS when I move next year go nicely alongside the GR Yaris

Both the winged 992 gt3 and (especially) the SRS are available from dealers, the are some SRS that have been sat at dealers unsold for 12+ months and are advertised with sizeable discounts from list - so OP needs to be careful what he asks for, only have want you really want and plan to keep and expect to lose 30-40% on.

I get that except replacing your beloved green with an indifferent choice colour especially on a special Sunday car might take something away from the need to go different.
It’s a lot of money to spend ( contribution aside which I doubt will be huge ) and presumably you would buy to keep ?
That all said is standard PTS now that much - it makes Aston’s Q paint options seem decent value !

Absolutely i think with the Gt3 i would keep options light keeping under £170k gets you buckets, lift and an ok colour to avoid loosing your shirt. Cartenega Yellow looks interesting colour wise i wonder what it looks like in the flesh. You could easily get to £200k on options though which is crazy money

Indeed. Given the car is still registered in my name and the rejection process isn't finalised. I'd be very surprised if it appears, however not totally shocked if it suddenly did! The new engine was apparently ordered from Germany on Friday, so I suspect it'll get completed in the coming weeks ready for them to retail ASAP once the rejection (and my acceptance of terms) has been confirmed.

Indeed. I hadn't really considered it, but we popped into my next closest OPC (not mentioned in this thread!) yesterday to have a look at colours, and they had a Vanadium GTS on silver wheels. It looked really nice, but back home and on the configurator I'm not sure it sporty/special enough when I overlay my other spec choices. This is an occasional car, so it has to stimulate me aesthetically as well and when driven.

Thanks, I appreciate and totally share your sentiments. The more the time passes since I found I can reject, the more I think I'm correct to move on from the car. As the dust settles it's clear to me who the good guys are, and who has let me down. The original servicing dealer have been poor (and I question if they ever did do the oil change they said they did!), as have Porsche GB, but the main culprits to the pain have been Porsche FS.
Sure, Mayfair are a business, and it's in their interests to keep me happy, but, at the same time, they didn't legally have to do a lot of what the have continually done in the background along this frustrating journey. They really have been superb.
Getting closure on my terms is paramount, and it's what I am aiming for.
TDT said:

I turned down a 4RS allocation a long time ago as I didn't think it was enough of a change for me. A SRS is an interesting one, as Mayfair looked at the numbers for me a few months back when all this was brewing (on new and used), but as the car lives outside the roof is questionable, as is it being enough of a change 'up' for me. It also probably won't be a surprise to know the Finacial 'risk' on a GT3 is much less than a SRS. Underwritten values over 2, 3 and 4 years, make a GT3 significantly better for depreciation, and overall cost/risk, but only if I keep options on a GT3 light(ish).
The roof on the spyder is very good well i can vouch for the 987 Spyder one as i once drove in a torrential down pour without a drop coming into the car, a fella on here has done 120k plus miles in his (he dailys it) without any problems.
But if i bought any car north of £100k that is little used i would want to garage it as any car sitting outside for lengths of time unused is not good, even using a cover which i have done in the past (a very good one) is a pain in the arse.

Not so sure, I remember the days of 3/4 year old Gt3s falling dramatically in price which could happen again especially on 992 onwards considering the volumes that have been built imo safe money is with the SRS it s unique in the same way as a gt3 engined speedster and look at the prices of those new to now a 997 was what £140k new now what are they? Mind you they were more limited numbers but the SRS is still pretty much a low volume build.

Yup, as mentioned on previous page, the money coming off the list-price refund are the OTR costs (c £2k), and £1 milage deduction for every mile on the clock (c£3k). So c£5k total to come off the full list price refund amount.

You're still quids in given how much the cars have tanked you must be secretly buzzing about all this!
It's weird TBH, I'm happy it's coming to a closure, but I'm certainly not 'buzzing'. I'll come out of this well financially, but you can't put a price on emotion. The GT4 was 'my' car. I hunted down an allocation, I specced it to how I wanted, and took the risk with Python. I had the highs & lows of waiting for it to arrive (c10mths due to the Ukraine war starting, delays, parts shortages etc), so it was special to me. I do minimal milage a year, I know, but I work hard and my downtime (especially with my son) is precious to me therefore every mile I do in it has to be a good one.
When it arrived, I was actually 'buzzing', on delivery day my other half did a video of my reaction as the covers came off for the first time. I think it says it all:

Once my initial deposit and any equity I had in the car is taken into consideration, it really isn't much. What money I do get will be going into another car of some flavour, so it's not 'real' money unless I decide not to buy another car.

I'm not though. I bought at 2021 list price (before all the multiple price rises at the end of 2021 and into 2022), and the current P/X prices for the GT4 have firmed and risen over the past 12 months, so it's not even close to £25k.

WBAC isn't really a benchmark, it's just the rock-bottom price one could get for the car. I'be been offered much more in P/X in recent weeks.

I find motorway a better selling platform, i sold our JCW through them back in July, not far off what i could have achieved privately. WBAC was not far behind on initial valuation but never found out what i would have achieved if taken to their outlet.
He might have got good offers as a trade on a new car as a px but i have found you always do better without a trade in. I have achieved 15/17% discount on cash purchases of new Porsches in the past and with this current economic climate and uncertainty wouldnt be suprised if double figure discounts are available especially more so as we approach end of year.
What he made on the deal will be lost on the purchase of £170k car anyway especially if using a Pcp again.
Still reckon if he loved the GT4 as much as he says i would have gone for the new engine and sweeteners

I am sure he would have just had a car that performed rather that this debarcle and a few grand. I think it would put me off and even if the gt3 is a good offer maybe get it in writing that you might want it in a couple of years and go the Ferrari route this time. Dealing with a different product and different people might give you that buzz again. The gt3 offer is good but it would pain me a little bit due to the situation to go straight to another car from the same brand.

I'm pretty much swayed by the 'new GT3' idea, because as I found out a couple of weeks ago, Ferrari aren't much better in the honesty stakes.
In short, a 488 being advertised by an official Ferrari dealership, with FFSH, but actually has a missing service, a missing MOT, and a bit of a blank/dodgy history gap...

Sorry to hear of the woes; that's quite a roller coaster journey. I can understand the sentiment of shying away from the brand for a while as it's hard to look at things objectively when it's YOUR car. On the other hand the probabilities of this happening again are low (if they were not low, an annual warranty would be a lot more than a grand) and it sounds like you have been offered a couple of fair offers, at least on a financial basis.
I had quite a few issues with my '21 GT3 (bought in 2023) but all very minor compared to your engine failure. I had negative views on the brand for a while but it didn't put me off buying another 911 and some of the issues I experienced related to it being the first model year. I have a GTS on order for delivery in December, deliberating avoiding the first MY2025 release especially with all the new hybrid technology.
But if I had received a call from the dealer offering me a Q1, '26 build slot for a GT3, I would have seriously considered it, although now that I'm retired I still think a Carrera or GTS is more comfortable for longer road trips, albeit in combination with a less exciting overall driving experience.
So I respectfully suggest you get on the configurator, post up your GT3 build code and we'll rip it apart! Seriously though, reference your earlier post, you are right, you can build a very nice GT3 for ~£170k with steels and ~£180k with ceramics, both plus OTR charges. It should also benefit from being the second model year which also has the updated PCM, Bose sound system (option), 10 year Connect subscription etc. Have your partner ready with the camera when you pull the cover off the oak green neo GT3 in April.

Haha, if I do that then I'll get slated for not speccing logo on the arm-rest, or race-tex visors, or illuminated door sills, or carbon ashtray surrounds, light design package, painted key, or many of the other things I don't want or need, but seem to be "essential" in internet world...

I've decided not to go Ceramics. The steels on my GT4 were great, so the steels on the 3 will be more than fine for the milage and the type of driving I do.

Can you enlighten me on what differences there are in the PCM?

It certainly won't be Oak Green. I want to be different from the other 99% of .2 GT3's being specced/appearing which seem to be Oak Green...
The lure of a new GT3 ordered to my own spec was in the end too much for me to turn down. My other half said if you turn it down you probably won't get a chance to spec another GT3 from new, but you will always be able to get another used Ferarri.
Mayfair asked me this morning to send over my provisional spec so they could put it into the system today. Therefore, subject to being paid from Porsche for my car etc, the wait starts, roll on the Spring(!)...
Yup, looks good and also had the same desire despite any likelihood GT3's will be as common as muck in the near future. But joking aside, the faux material they use for the sunvisors is indeed dire so you'd like to go for either the leather or race-tex (the latter likely) to match your interior.
PCM is

.
FYI, two possible changes PAG informed us and coming in "next year's batch of cars" are the driver awareness tech being added (it's already on the configurator graphic) and a wider palette for deviated stitching for the LWBs.

Thanks, that's handy to know! I'm hoping they change the PCM so it uses high-res and displays more than two lines of app icons for CarPlay. The loan Cayenne I had recently was terrible with two lines. Even my 4 year old Discovery has 4 lines!

Looks good. Any reason not to select the shark blue stitch option?
IMO Shark is light and clashes with the Lugano. Lugano doesn't represent well on the configurator, in real life it's darker and much deeper/richer.

Indeed Shark and Lugano are quite different paint colours but I wouldn't write off the shark stitching unless you have already seen them together at the dealer config room or on a car. There's a Lugano for sale at an independent in Birmingham with WP and shark stitching and at least from the photos it looks pretty good to me. It would differentiate the interior from most of the others out there.
I just sold my '17 R8 that I ordered from new in Jaguar French Racing Blue (it's one of a kind and currently for sale on A/T) with Audi Ara blue stitching and that was a great match even though Ara and FRB are very different paint colours. A thread is always going to appear more subdued than a laquered paint.
Anyway, good luck with the build and order

Very nice - classy yet a tad understated and particularly like the silver wheels contrast.
Not to put a dampener on proceedings but considering the misery cause by the GT4 engine, not an engine recognised for failures that I’m aware of…
You’re moving on to a car by the same manufacturer that very much does have a reputation for self destructing itself.
Lightening doesn’t strike twice, or once bitten twice shy?
Aren't those card supposed to be tracked mercilessly rather than remain practically unused? I am not convinced 1,000 miles a year is very good for them, I don't know.

I think it’s not good for any car to do such low mileage annually especially something like a GT product, I have found the most reliable cars are the ones used regularly and not used for short journeys. These cars are built to be used and it’s great when you read stories of the 150k+ miles in a gt3 that’s crossed continents or the 987 Spyder that’s used daily and done 120k no problems. Now it’s all talking values up , polishing and posing at cars and coffee lol

Yup, I went to my next-nearest OPC last weekend and had a look at it all in their config room. I personally don't think they go together. The silver/grey stitch is a nicer contrast IMO.

As confirmed by Reading, it was an engine manufacturing issue, so the fault was there from day one. It just didn't materialise until later in life due to the low milage I do. If I'd have done 3k miles in the first year, it would have happened then instead. The problem has nothing to do with the low usage.

Who cares it's under warranty and if the dealer cocks up you get your money back and a a depreciation free Carr in three years!

Oddly enough no mention of a new engine and no longer being matching numbers is that's still such a thing

Given the number of 991s with new engines i think we'll reserve that term for the old aircooled cars (which have all been clocked anyway)

Id have thought Porsche would update the engine number with the DVLA and then youd never know until somebody with a beard and an adenoidy voice decides to seek a heritage certificate from the factory.

Mine hasn't

Funny, that s missing lots of key options that would have knocked it off my list when I was looking;
Doom blue
No contrast stitching
No PDK
No PCCB
Shows how different we all are .
I like the colour, the fact it's manual and I'd probably not notice the lack of contrast stitching although I do agree PCCB would look amazing.

Must be massively subjective as these are the precise things that would put it on my list although I don't know what contrast stitching is but I have a suspicion it's not crucial on a track focused car.

Of course it's completely subjective, I was merely pointing out the futility of marketing a car as "having all the right options"-it certainly wouldn't for me!
Gentian Blue is a beautiful colour by the way, I just wouldn't want a GT4 in it (GT3 Touring however...) and contrasting stitching gives the interior a bit of a simple lift. Similar in a way to the painted centre consoles/roll cages used to in the old days. Not for everyone admittedly.

True

If there's one thing JZM are good at, it's how to photograph cars and process the photos. It certainly won't look that good outside and/or in real life.

Assuming this has been done with the DVLA, would this not show up on a CarVertical or other report?
Whether someone would run a report on an approved used car is a different matter

Doom blue....... aye, whatever.......
Almost exactly the same spec as my own. In over 4 years of ownership the amount of people who have stoped and commented saying what an amazing spec it is has really surprised me. From OPC mechanics when it's in for a service, hardened lifelong petrolheads, school kids & people who don't know anything about cars, it's been unreal to be honest.
Funnily though, nobody has ever crossed the street to call me a moron for not having having PCCBs or loud yellow stitching......... As for the age old pdk vs manual debate, just buy what you want, both fantastic, both different.

Gentian is my favourite colour in the current Porsche line up. Each to their own. They are fantastic cars and mine never fails to put a smile on my face and that’s all that matters for me.
But I am thinking that a 4RS may just put a bigger smile on my face. That’s one to be discussed over the holiday period with the wife.

I agree that Gentian Blue Metallic is the best 718 colour until you get into the silly options of Paint To Sample, and I certainly wouldn't class it as Doom blue.

I should have stated that I haven’t had a Gentian Blue 718, but I think it’s the colour that shows off the 718 best. But as always each to their own.
Doom blue is an actual term we would use in the trade!
It is popular though I note that the Abyss Blue in the Alpine A110 is very popular this is Doom blue as well. Not one for me personally but would definitely stock it.
Just don't paint the wheels gold/bronze. As previously mentioned it looks s
te.

Nothing worse than black wheels imo, you just can’t make out any detail and every other car has black wheels now
