Suggestion

It had to be loose for awhile before falling out and could have been tightened had it been noticed during that period.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

You may recall my thread some time ago wherein I enquired about the ease of transmission removal for purposes of checking pressure plate bolt tightness. All the responses were to the effect that I was way out of line daring to touch a Porsche with a wrench if I wasn't a dealer mechanicor a tuner or god. Well, I'm at it again. It is very possible that those instances of clutch slave cylinder failure that have caused shifting problems in a few cars (along with loose pressure plate bolts) could have been prevented by checking the one bolt that retains the cylinder. It had to be loose for awhile before falling out and could have been tightened had it been noticed during that period. It is on top of the transmission, accessible from below on the left side. It is oriented 'sideways' rather than fore-and-aft as one might expect and is directly below where the hydraulic line goes into the cylinder. A 13mm socket on a 6' extension is required and nothing else needs to be removed for access. At the very least this check should be done at the first oil change. I have some additional peace of mind having done it at 2100 miles.

Santa Fe---Sorry, its already down off the stands. Don't think a useful pic would have been possible. Access is easy and foolproof but partly by feel rather than sight. There is even room up there for a drop light. Ed
