Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
I would rather they debugged the IMS bearing repair/replace kit on a trashed engine then mine.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Check it out. I have perfected the technology so that I can take about 1500 photos and then press a button and have them easily converted into a tech article. This one is on the teardown of a Boxster / 996 engine. Very cool, let me know what you guys think:

Very nice! I just disassembled one of these myself and could have benefited from the information. I do hope you'll put up a similar set of engine reassembly!
Sort of wondering why you were pulling the intermediate shaft bearing like that, especially since this case is going to be split anyway. Isn't the end of the shaft (or the sprocket) being forced against the case by the bearing puller, risking damage to the shaft or sprocket?
Wayne,
Great write up ands pictures. Will this be in your new book "How to modify and rebuild your M-type engine?
E46328i,
I would rather they debugged the IMS bearing repair/replace kit on a trashed engine then mine.
The way the IMS bearing rides in the inner race of the bearing on this end, nut-bolt/short shaft, plugged into the hollow IMS. I doubt that there would be much tension on the shaft itself after after taking the nut off and driving the bolt/short shaft in to the hollow end of the IMS to create clearance for the bearing extraction tool to get a grip on the inner race.
FPB111, given the state of the engine, I suppose I agree.
Both ends of that intermediate shaft are just a big pile of crap! Putting a grease filled, sealed bearing in an environment full of hot oil and leaving the other end of the shaft rolling around in the aluminum oil pump housing with no bearing at all? It's like the adults at Porsche turned the project over to a 7th grade science class and said "here kids, what do you propose we do with this bit?"
