No, the 981 GT4 used the 991.1 GT3 front suspension and brakes, so your 981 didn't have 991 Carrera brakes as a YT video informed you.
Leading evidence: 'Use 991.1 gt3 front suspension and brakes' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'same' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace with 911 carrera s brakes' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Are you saying that you had a 981GT4 that had had the brakes replaced with 911 Carrera S brakes?

Deffo Steels as had those on my 981 GT4 and I dare say for the limited track use the 718 4.0 brakes would be ok .
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Little confused on the GTS brakes over S brakes for both the 718 and the 911.
Had a 981 GT4 that had the carrera S brakes from the 911 and thought they were more than adequate.
Are the GTS 718 4.0 brakes essentially now the same as the brakes mentioned above or are they actually an upgrade on the carrera S brakes ?
Looking into a change in cars for the new year and just gathering info .
Cheers all
Are you saying that you had a 981GT4 that had had the brakes replaced with 911 Carrera S brakes? Pretty sure that's not what they came with as standard. Maybe the same callipers?
718 GTS 4.0 brakes are smaller than 981 GT4 brakes (350/330mm vs. 380/380mm F/R). For the road, the GTS 4.0 brakes are far more suitable, and I really like them. Great pedal feel, work from cold, no shortage of stopping power.
If you're expecting to do a lot of track work, the standard 981 GT4 brakes are superb (though with a heavy pedal, which I actually liked), and you'd likely notice the GTS 4.0 brakes aren't as fade resistant on longer track sessions.
But if your 981 GT4 had non-standard brakes fitted, not sure how they might compare.
Not sure if I've helped or hindered.

Tks Liam very much helped.
I'd assumed the brakes ( not just the callipers) on the 981 were from the carrera S after watching a video which quoted exactly that.
Usage would be 3/4 track days but I'm no driving god so they might last plus I guess I could always upgrade them if necessary.
Alternatively I could opt for a 718 Spyder that I'm assuming would have equivalent brakes to the GT4?
Only issue for me is the roof faff
I’ve been pricing up a new set of rotors for my 992 C2S and there seems to be lots of crossover on compatibility including 911 GTS.
Check out Design911 as they list all the models suitable.

Fab will do tks. .
They are very close to me so could easily pick up what I need and have fitted locally
@Esquire, are you thinking steel or ceramic? If you're 3/4 track, I think I'd still give the GTS 4.0 brakes a go, but would stick with steel as they are a bit more cost effective to replace. You might find you get through pads and discs faster than in your old GT4.
718 Spyder does have GT4 brakes I believe. Would you not consider a 718 GT4? I'm in the lucky position of having a GTS 4.0 for road use, and a GT4 RS for the track. I haven't tracked the GTS 4.0 (yet), but I definitely would, and the brakes would not concern me in the slightest. Both cars are on steel brakes.

Have also thrown the 718 GT4 into the mix although I really do love open top motoring .
The 718 Spyder sounds the obvious choice then although the roof does put me off a little .
The Leccy roof on the more regular cars is just brilliant and convenient I guess
Is it the case that the PCCB's on the 718 Boxster are a step-up from the standard steels ? Particularly in terms of beter handling and the lack of brake dust and corrosion ?

I think where I've gotten confused is in the Autocar YouTube vid Steve Sutcliffe when testing the Cayman 4.0 718 states there are 'GTS' brakes although the car he's on track with had ceramics.
No probs ... it's an interesting conversation. It was certainly the case with 987 Cayman R and Spyder, that the PCCB's became a desirable if expensive extra ... I wondered if it was the same with the 718 Boxster ...

I've not noticed many 718's with PCCB.
Guess forum chatter of replacement costs tend to put buyers off .
I've got some weighing up to do in the new year as my car really is lovely to the extent I'd not want to track it .
It's 27k miles totally loaded with FPSH and warranty which is renew prior to selling . Had a minor at Porsche this year too and all good .
Maybe year after next it'll be time for new brakes/tyres and other ancillaries plus the major service so next year might be the optimum time to sell up .
Gotta say I'll definitely miss the noise of engine with PSE and the roof off & no particulate filters .
Thinking slightly outside the box here but did the 981 Spyder have the same brakes all round as the 981 GT4?
I know it's Manual only but might be able to get my head round the Manual roof.

No, the 981 GT4 used the 991.1 GT3 front suspension and brakes, so your 981 didn't have 991 Carrera brakes as a YT video informed you.
The 981 Spyder did however have 991 front brakes, as it was considered a more road-biased proposition, whereas the GT4 was always destined to be driven round and round in circles

Fabulous thank you.
Explains perfectly why i loved the brakes on a previously owned GT4.
Are we therefore to assume that the same applies to the 718 GT4 & Spyder cars ?

Yes, the PCCBs on the 718 S are superb, and a real step up from steel. Never owned one with them, so not sure about corrosion and brake dust. But I have driven a few at the Porsche Experience Centre Silverstone over the years. More instant, better pedal feel, and all but unfadeable even with multiple heavy stops from 80 mph. The 718 steel brakes last between 3 and 4 of those ridiculous stops before they are noticeably fading.
But evidently they don't wear that well on track, and I'd be scared of chipping a disc, because they are really expensive to replace. Because of that I've very sensibly invested in a set of Surface Transforms carbon discs for my GT4 RS.
They might even turn up one of these days...

There are no issues with dust or corrosion with PCCBs.
