Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I must be hard on wheels, I've had four bends repaired on my Carrera II's in the last 6 years.

FWIW, I run 235 and 295 PS4's, so my guess is they weigh considerably more than the equivalent 225/285 combo, so it's a moot point anyway.

I ran the hollow Turbo twists on my Turbo for 2 years on track before upgrading to the Apex VS5RS which are lighter and an inch wider....

Suggestion
And the lightest OE 18" wheel fitted to a N/B 996 road car by Porsche (and wonderfully easy to clean too)

Suggestion
Granted, one time was cuz I ran over a brick in the road...but still, those huge rear barrels are easy to bend, so says my wheel repair guy that sees a lot of these in his shop.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

- Rears are much lighter than hollow Turbo I and Turbo II.
- Fronts are lighter than hollow Turbo II but not Turbo I.
I have 2 sets of them. They are tough and light. Never had a problem with them bending or breaking over any rumble strips on the track or bumps on the street. They are open by design and arguably allow some of the best brake heat disapation of all Porsche wheels of the era. Yep, they are also very easy to clean and show off big brake kits extremely well.
What's not to love about them!
Looks like a paint to match color as are on my Targa....I did not like these rims at all until I owned them and now I like them. I still prefer the sport classics though..
Thanks for link!
I've owned both and are great wheels. The 18" hollow spoke Turbo I Twists that were introduced in the 993 generation and retired during the mk1 996, have been the bench mark standard for lightness and why I brought them up.
As you mention, the fronts are still lighter than the Carrera. IMHO, since we're talking unsprung weight, I think you benefit from the lightness on the fronts for better steering.

Exactly.
Personally I prefer the knife edge and the design editing of any unnecessary material leaving a remarkably minimal remaining essential structure in a significant blend of form and function. A side benefit is the wardrobe malfunction effect exposing and revealing the barrels which are otherwise hidden on most wheels. It's decades ahead of its time and something that you see more on wheels now 20 years newer. They are the airiest of wheels. See Atgani.
Man, know I'm going to lose a lot of sleep tonight knowing my front wheels are 400g heavier than the 408's. But I'll redress the balance by sleeping in longer tomorrow morning, knowing that my rear wheels being 300g lighter than the 408's, must be killing you ...
FWIW, I run 235 and 295 PS4's, so my guess is they weigh considerably more than the equivalent 225/285 combo, so it's a moot point anyway.
Ultimately, I always console myself thinking of the owners of 996.1 and 996.2 GT3's (the former of which I used to be one) with their boat anchor wheels ...
As we're on the topic of the 996 wheel weights. Who makes the lightest 18" aftermarket wheels for the 996 ?
Caveat to the above question :
In sizes either 18 x 8/10” or
8.5/11”
Must be off the shelf, commercially available one piece items.
Not carbon fibre, not one off special magnesium/carbon fibre items from the likes of Augment or Litespeed.
ET’s and PCD must be Porsche specific, and not require spacers or adaptors to fit correctly.
Forgeline, Fikse etc acceptable but weights need to be proven, either by a photo of the wheel/s on a scale, or the manufacturers specification/data sheet.
Here’s a starter to get the ball rolling :
I’m going to say the 8.5” fronts are 8kg.
Ive not but doesnt mean they dont though. The Carreras are light and for sure the Enkeis are the lightest but not forged. The TEs are:
18x8.5 = 18.8lbs (8.5kg)
18x11 = 20.8lbs (9.4kg)
Think the OP is good with the Carreras and the hollow spokes on NB are out of touch for most. So Id say theyre the lightest OEM wheel for the price.
So these were the lightest single piece commercially available 18" 130 x 5 PCD Porsche specific fitment wheels I could find after much research a couple of years ago :
https://www.tws-forged.com/tws_t66-f.html
The 8.5" ET 40 fronts weigh in at 7.5kg each, and the 11" ET60 rears weigh in at 8.37kg each ...

I ran the hollow Turbo twists on my Turbo for 2 years on track before upgrading to the Apex VS5RS which are lighter and an inch wider.... 18x9 et46 is 8.07 kg 18x12 is 9.39 kg.
That's my next set of wheels to add to my carerras. Apex has done a nice job. What you don't get with the carerra wheel but do get with the Apex wheel is beading, which comes in handy on the track under hard braking. Don't know about any of the turbo twists.
