Unless they use different plastic to make the different "quality" front lips, they are going to break if you put enough pressure on them while backing out of a driveway or pulling into a driveway or parking spot and you catch the lip on something.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I could have sworn there was at least one front lip for a C2 996.2 that don't try to make the nose look like a spaceship. I'm looking for something relatively clean and simple, like what is on the C4S, 40AE, etc. Maybe I'm crazy...

POST 3Original post

wdb - The OE little aero II lip is about $400+ship. Cup lip is about .75 deeper and $165. For my eye the larger lip helped balance the shark snout dip, or droopy chin syndrome look in profile. Cup lip on standard front cover. Profile not cartoonish with cup lip on non-aero .2.

POST 9Original post

Sorry missed line 2. Just got off phone with Demon Sports. Real nice guy. He told me they are not really made for the 996.2 how is the fit on your OEM bumper and did you go with street or race? Thanks

Do you have a regular C2? Check this one. https://www.betterbodiesmotorsport.com/product/231/porsche-996-aero-2-front-polyurethane-02-04-bumper-spoiler-lip-gt3-rs-look Mine is a race, you can see some of the mold release but its minimal. @TexSquirrel sent me some links for hardware via Amazon instead of the clips + double sided tape.

POST 11Original post

The Cup car lip from Demon Speed fits the 996.2 aerokit bumper without any modifications. It attaches to the factory aerokit lip location. But it should fit the standard 996.2 bumper with some minor mods. I have never tried to attach one to a standard 996.2 bumper, so I can’t confirm. You can modify it to a 996.1 bumper. I have done that before. But it definitely required trimming the lip and drilling holes in the bumper. 996.2 Aerokit: My recommended hardware: I‘ll post links to Amazon parts when I get a chance.

POST 12Original post

This hardware replaces the plastic pushpins which can fail. It requires no drilling to install, but the bumper does need to be removed, which is simple to do. Bolts: https://a.co/d/ijkT6xt Washers: https://a.co/d/dpc7bKo Nuts: https://a.co/d/0ApGGMX

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Demonspeed it is, thanks all! Should I just go ahead and order 2 of them right away?

POST 14Original post

I purchased one of the last cup car lips from FVD just before Porsche discontinued them in 2020. When DemonSpeed took preorders for their replacement I bought one for a spare.(awesome price BTW) I later acquired a used OEM Porsche lip when I bought my GT3RS deck & wing. I have two spares now. In 2021, I parked too close to a parking curb and folded my lip 180. When I checked it later, there was no evidence it had been “abused.” When I shipped my 996 to GA for the F6I build, the shipped damaged my original lip due to running over some chains on the ramp. It’s not horrible, but it is noticeable to me. Leaving a parking lot in December, my lip took another beating, but doesn’t look any worse. I still haven’t swapped it out for a better looking one, because it’s not worth the time to change it out yet. All this to say, just buy one unless plan to hit LOTS of curbs. It can take a tremendous amount of abuse and still look good.

POST 15Original post

I have one as well from demon speed. Haven't put it on yet. Only because I haven't added my 3rd radiator yet that's been sitting on the shelf. This spring I'll put it on. I figure I will need a couple of the Demon speed splitters as a just in case. No big deal. They are relatively inexpensive.

POST 16Original post

The Cup lip fits well on most of the base bumper, but the black plastic triangle spats near the wheels push the "legs" of the lip downward so it's not perfect. You can definitely make your own for just the cost of some spacers, some sheet plastic, and an angle grinder or scroll saw. I'm planning to do one myself in a few more weeks, using the OEM spats as part of the design.

A Dremel solves the 1 excess. Test fit, mark and trim.

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 19217822

Nah that's not my complaint. I'm not a fan of the line of the lip going under the triangle - I want it to intersect. You'll see what I'm getting at once I've worked through more of my design backlog.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Next question -- Street Quality, OEM-Quality, or Race Quality? I'm less concerned about minor imperfections and more concerned with how it holds up. For one thing I suspect it's going to scrape at the end of the driveway! So my thought is to go with "Race Quality". Quoting their site:

POST 20Original post

I bought the GT3 front splitter from Demonspeed for my 996.2 C2 right after Porsche discontinued making them. At the time I paid $200 for it. They only had the GT3 street version and GT3 cup versions. The GT3 Cup version is a bigger lip so i went with the GT3 street. No street, oem or race versions as defined by quality was available at the time. This looks to be a relatively new option. My guess is the one they sent me was of OEM quality. It looks great. I'll post close up pictures after I find them. Unless they use different plastic to make the different "quality" front lips, they are going to break if you put enough pressure on them while backing out of a driveway or pulling into a driveway or parking spot and you catch the lip on something. While the plastic has some flexibility such as if you are trying to fit it to a Carrera bumper on a warm day, it will break. At $165, they are cheap, spray paintable and easily replaceable. Mine came with the holes already drilled. So you will need to drill holes on your front bumper, but I assume that the location of the holes on every lip are the same, so replacement can be very easy. I would welcome a more flexible rubbery version that would bend and not break but haven't found one yet. Demonspeed also has a 3 piece GT3 front lip so you can replace the areas that break versus the whole thing. You can even choose the 3 piece in carbon fiber. But the 3 piece version is much more expensive. I think Tex has the right idea. If you put one on, have another in the garage as a just in case. You are eventually gonna break it. But at $165, does it matter that much? Dunno. While I am still looking for another option that will be more durable from Demonspeed (hint), it seems to be the only choice available at present time.

POST 21Original post

The reason for the clips and sticky tape is if you hit something or scrape a speed bump that grabs the lip, it does not destroy the bumper. I've had that happen a few times and the cost of a new spoiler is far, far cheaper than a bumper. I carry a set of extra clips in the trunk.

POST 22Original post

The demonspeed plastic is brittle enough that it won't hurt the bumper. Plastic will shatter. The biggest pita will be the time it will take to unscrew the shattered lip and putting a new one on.
