like most things all these numbers can and are being reset, not that I would worry on a PDK car about over revs really.

The salesman also offered to drive it up to me for me to test drive which is about a 160 mile round trip for him.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi everyone, I've learned a lot from these discussions and Pistonheads in general so many thanks. I'm currently looking at a 2.9 PDK Cayman from a Porsche main dealer with around 9,000 on the clock. I've asked for the DME over revving readout which I received today ( see below ). Number of ignitions at speed > maximum speed, range 1 108 Number of ignitions at speed > maximum speed, range 2 8 Number of ignitions at speed > maximum speed, range 3 0 Number of ignitions at speed > maximum speed, range 4 0 Number of ignitions at speed > maximum speed, range 5 0 Number of ignitions at speed > maximum speed, range 6 0 Operating hours counter reading at overspeed, range 1 0.000 h Operating hours counter reading at overspeed, range 2 0.000 h Operating hours counter reading at overspeed, range 3 0.000 h Operating hours counter reading at overspeed, range 4 0.000 h Operating hours counter reading at overspeed, range 5 0.000 h Operating hours counter reading at overspeed, range 6 0.000 h It looks very good but I'm not sure about the minor incident recorded being at 0.000 hrs? Does this mean it took place at the factory and nothing has happened since? I was not sent the Total Operating Hours figure although I intend to find out tomorrow. I'm hoping some of you guys can advise me on whether the DME report looks good or fishy. This is a Porsche main dealer and they happily informed me that the previous owner missed the 20,000/ 2 year service because the mileage was so low. However they have just carried out the major 40,000 / 4 year service even though it's just over 3 years old, and the car has the usual 2 year warranty. I queried whether because of the missed service Porsche might not be prepared to renew the warranty in 2 years time and have e-mailed me to confirm that the car is still valid for the full 9 years / 125,000 miles warranty. I'd be interested in any thoughts you might have. Many thanks.

POST 2Original post

Looks ok in general. The operating hours when the event occurred is hard to understand, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

POST 3Original post

Whilst the OPC are prepared to honour the warranty the missed first two year service undertaken at three years would put me off especially with such low mileage. Could discourage future potential purchasers as well hence impact on residuals..... Depends on how keen you are on this particular car but I would want a good discount failing that find another.....not as if there aren't lots about either......

POST 4Original post

Interesting - I checked my dash service indicator (981 CS) yesterday and it is showing 10/2017 (3 years) and 37k miles to the first service? I thought these things were on 2 year intervals?

POST 5Original post

I would try and get the total op hours of the car. like most things all these numbers can and are being reset, not that I would worry on a PDK car about over revs really.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the input. I've had information from the dealer for Total Operating Hours. Operating hours counter 333.800 h Recall campaigns 3 0x00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 Recall campaigns 4 0x00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 I'm told the recall line shows that the car has not been re mapped. 333 hours seems about right to me but I'd be interested in your thoughts. Cheers.

POST 7Original post

Is it a London based car? 333 hours for 9,000 seems unusual - that's an average of 27mph or so. if it's outside of London that can't right, can it?

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes the previous owner is west London based and it originates from a London Porsche centre. You'd be surprised how low the average speed of cars is though. I have a Honda Jazz which had 4000 on the clock at 1 year old when I got it last September and the average I think was 17mph then! I've put another 4000 on it since and used it for work around Birmingham, but I've also been to Cornwall and some other cross country distance trips. I've just checked the average and it is now 18mph and apparently going nowhere fast. Ok it's a Jazz but it'll do 60 - 70 across country like most cars. Ok, ok, now you know why I want a Porsche!!

POST 10Original post

I reset the fuel computer on my 987 Boxster every time I fill up. Usually on a tank load of fuel it registers something like a 32mph average speed. Generally I'm driving 18 miles to & from work on an A road & some motorway stuff on weekends.

Looking at the report I would be more concerned about lack of use. 9k miles in 4 years and the owner does not appear to have used it as intended, looking at the rev range report.

Carl_Docklands said: Looking at the report I would be more concerned about lack of use. 9k miles in 4 years and the owner does not appear to have used it as intended, looking at the rev range report. I see what you mean. It was registered at end of Nov 2010 and the mileage is actually just 8200. I've calculated it's averaged about 205 miles a month over 39 months. It could potentially have been sitting unused for a long period of time though leading to the missed first service through lack of interest. Initially I thought great, now I'm not so sure. There's also the missed 2 year / 20000 mile service to consider. The Porsche centre gave it the 4 year / 40000 mile service last month. The thing is I would have thought a missed service was a warranty breaker but it's got the usual 2 year attached. I'm not sure whether another centre would give me a follow on warranty in 2 years time or even honour this one either so I'm going to check. The salesman also offered to drive it up to me for me to test drive which is about a 160 mile round trip for him. I'm not sure if this is usual... anyone? I think I have tracked the previous owner via google. Perhaps I should give him a call do you think? I'd be interested if any of you are hearing alarm bells? Thanks for the input.

POST 14Original post

So the car got into range 2 at 0.000 h? How does that happen?

POST 15Original post

it's fine... The above looks normal. I wouldn't lose sleep over it if other stuff checks out. You have the 2 year warranty anyway

POST 16Original post

HokumPokum said: it's fine... The above looks normal. I wouldn't lose sleep over it if other stuff checks out. You have the 2 year warranty anyway I also wouldn't lose sleep over a PDK over-rev report, the box is designed to not let you break the engine by seriously over-revving it, I'd like to see Porsche refuse a claim based on over-revs on a PDK car, actually I wouldn't put money on that!

POST 17Original post

The car doesn't need any service history to be eligible for the warranty, it just has to fit within the age/mileage criteria, have a major OPC service and pass the inspection. I wouldn't worry about it too much, when you sell it it'll have more history, it does sound like the OPC are keen to move it though, use that to your advantage when negotiating

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I took a trip to my local OPC in Sutton Coldfield today to check out how they would react to a missing service if I intended to renew it through them in a couple of years. They said it was not an issue. A missing service has to be followed by a major service it seems and I think the multi point check. The car I'm looking at has had this done and would be accepted. My worry was being left high and dry in 2 years with no warranty and a devalued car as a result. I mentioned the low mileage relative to the age and they said it wasn't uncommon either and not to worry about it. The most likely issue might be the battery which may not have been getting the charge it requires. I'm quite pleased with their reaction really because I've put my name down with them to source a car for me and I did mention this. They could quite easily have put me off if they had tried. They gave me the impression the car was sound. I'm driving it tomorrow and it's got the push button set up rather than the paddles. I'd be interested to know what people think of the two setups? I asked how much to change to flappy paddles at the start and was told £800-£900, + labour I think. I know the buttons have received some criticism but does anyone actually like them? Porsche seem to be persevering with them so there must be a reason. I'm keeping an open mind with the buttons & PDK, normally I'd go for a manual but I thought I should at least drive one before I decide. Any tips on what to look for on the wear and tear side? I'm hoping there shouldn't be much with 8k on the clock. I've read the PistonHeads Cayman buying tips but if anyone has anything else I'd be grateful. Cheers everyone.
