Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

22 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey guys, i was reading that some early 996 builds were part of the Sonderwunsch or special wish program. Anyone know how to see if your car was one?

POST 2Original post

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 19220415

yes i have this. So whats so special?

POST 5Original post

Thanks, great looking ride you have there yourself! 09991 means the car was assembled with customer-specified options (Special Wishes or "Sonderwunsch" in German) that were available for installation on the regular assembly line as the car was making it's way through the factory. 09981 which you also have on your sticker means during the assembly process your car was diverted to the Werks 1 building for customer-specified options that were not able to be installed on the regular assembly line.

Woahh that's super cool!!! Thanks so much for the info!!

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

mine has 09981 00501 and 09991 how do i know what options were special wishes?

POST 8Original post

We have some similar options, rear wiper, wheel caps, Hi-Fi sound, Aerokit, & Aluminum/chrome. I'm guessing out of those the special one is the Aerokit that went to Werks 1 to get fitted, I am basing this on absolutely nothing as I didn't even know this was a thing 5 min ago lol.

Special Wishes options are most likely your 3-digit numeric codes and Y codes on your list as these could be installed on the regular assembly line with a quick parts swap. Your X codes (specifically XAA) is likely why your car was diverted to Werks 1 for additional assembly. My limited research suggests 996.1 cars ordered with XAA went to Werks 1 for the Aerokit installation. By the time 996.2 production commenced the regular assembly line was capable of fitting the Aerokit. I have seen 00501 a few times now but do not have a solid description for this one. Some sources indicate special paint. Out of curosity, what are the paint & interior codes listed on your sticker?

POST 10Original post

I have the 09991 and 00501 codes. My car was purchased from a Manhattan showroom so I guess the dealer requested the options?

speed yellow with space gray interior... looks black to me

POST 12Original post

Yes, dealers could also custom order cars to target specific clients or have a highly optioned car for the show room to help upsell customers.

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 19220999

Yep, we had one specific guy who ordered all the Porsches for our Dealership and he was very good at specking out very "cool cars'" with the most wanted options/deletes.. We always had out of state dealers trying to "Dealer Trade" base models/lightly optioned models + cash for the cars he spec'ed out..lol...

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 19220421

Do you know what's that "011" written after the option codes? I have that one too, no idea of it's meaning.

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 19221537

Nope no idea, weird that multiple cars have 011 written in pen?

POST 16Original post

Could have been a dealer installed option so written in with pen?

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 19221660

This makes the most sense, anyone know what option 011 is off the top of their head?

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 19221761

I am not aware of any description for 011 in the 996 series, but it is a possiblity the dealer used this code to indicate a TSB or recall had been performed on a vehicle. I have seen similar hand-written numbers on other makes where the dealer tags the vehicle for repairs completed.

Once again, thank you for the info GBarron!

POST 20Original post

Great thread, discovered my car is also 0991. Wondering about codes 00501, did anyone figure this out? Also I noticed the engine code was different,... I am driving a 996.2 TIP, motor code: m9603 -662 A9610-10 ....any ideas?

POST 21Original post

Quotes source post: 19223482

M96.03 is the correct engine code for your car. Early cars (98-99 - cable throttle) were M96.01, then M96.02 (2000 - Egas), Then M96.04 for 1 year (USA Only - to meet emissions), and finally M96.03 (3.6L) for 2002 onwards until the 997 (M97 engine code).
