Suggestion
I suspect the new ST weight loss number will be the usual for a contemporary 911, ie a token amount to appeal to those looking to brag at the bar, rather than a significant figure that would actually change/improve the car’s dynamics.

The marketing dept at Stuttgart are fast running out of model designations (which in their day were used on truly great competition cars) to use on the modern overweight, bloated watercooled GT cars.

Looks good - what's the consensus, GT3 RS Touring type specification?
Basically yep. RS engine and manual gearbox, carbon body panels.. lightweighting.
It’s got the ugly front, will probably be expensive and in the ‘unobtainable’ category, and quite tiresome and frustrating to drive on most U.K. roads, so hardly get used.
Buy a 992T and enjoy it every day, without all the hassle.

Looks are subjective and it is a special edition, so whilst expensive, will probably hold or increase in value.
I doubt people would buy and ST as a daily driver, but as a relative new 991.2 manual GT3 owner with fixed buckets, I find the ride compliant and seats comfortable, so could use 'mine' as a daily. Maybe the ST will be harder, but I bet it wouldn't bother me and I have had a bad back for over 30 years....
Surely anyone with a chance of buying this car will have plenty of other cars for daily use?
Whilst you CAN use a 991/992 GT3 as a daily, my view is that is a waste and you are better off having another car for this purpose and saving the GT3 for special drives. The ST will be similar.
I assume that the ST will be to 992 what the R was to 991.2 ?
Although obviously when they launched 911 R there was no manual GT3 and no Touring. I assume it’ll be like the 911 R which apparently has a noticeably more road biased chassis than the GT3. So it’s what the 92 GT3 Touring should have been…i.e. a GT3 set up for road more than track with some lightweight panels to make it that bit more special than a GT3.

Indeed, like a 7.2 GT3 ;-)
As it has the normal GT3 nose.. means no single centre rad like the RS… and has traditional 3 rad set up, and you get your frunk and luggage capacity back.
That also eliminates the front active aero… not needed anyway as there is no huge rear wing.

This is going to be a Super Special model if all the rumbling i keep hearing of are true.
Super limited, with all the trick bits and more!
It has the round Heritage Edition badge on the boot lid, so a limited run like the Targa I guess...
Yep, with the move to electric and ever increasing emissions regs I think we've had the fun times of ICE cars. Time to research the back catalogue if you fancy a change...
I don’t know what it is exactly, but these just don’t excite me as much anymore as in the past. I think it is that a special Porsche came along every few years then, now it literally seems like every few months.

I agree ... if you think about it Porsche have done precisely the same as this with the high cost now of PTS. It's easy then to make a relatively average car a limited number due to its unusual colour and the resistance of the market to re-paint / liquid wrap ...

I have to agree with this. I've come from BMW ///M cars, and it used to frustrate me that almost every 3 months there used to be a new model of some sort, for example for an M4, you could have:
M4
M4 Competition
M4 CS
M4 GTS
Then a series of special editions to do with colours, anniversaries or something else, whatever they could do essentially to create more models.
Unfortunately, it seems Porsche is heading down this route also.

How many ways can you cheese-pare the GT3 concept as different versions rather than selected options ?

I agree to a degree, however it is increasingly likely that these will be the last of the NA special editons, so bring them on!

Agree. It used to be that special models were only built to satisfy homologation requirements for racing. And most were used as intended.
Such cars were relatively rare - although they did build 1,580 2.7RSs.
Now, it just seems to be a formulaic marketing strategy, with new ‘halo’ models being introduced with relentless regularity, to satisfy buyers who want something supposedly more exclusive than everyone else.

The front car (Touring?) has a strange rear bumper with vents behind the rear wheels which a standard Touring doesn't have? It looks totally different to the 2nd car.
This is going to be the one to have i think, however it will fall into the hands of the same people who get every GT allocation from their OPC due to sell back agreements and brown envelopes.
I quite like it though as said above wont ever be in a position to buy one as A. I’m not married to the Dealer Principal’s daughter and B I don’t have a large enough brown envelope.

We dont know what the 4th heritage car will be yet
I don’t really see the point. I even less see the point of making a handful of them.
Yet another car that no one can actually buy. That at the end of the day probably won’t barely any different to a GT3.
It’s all a bit sad really.

Am really curious what changes over a Touring the ST will bring. Would need to be substantial to lure me out of the Touring

Another limited porsche …zzzzzz.
So true. But, for now, they'll be enough enthusiasm stirred up across forums/social media about its technical abilities (which let's face it - if it was a blind tasting, no one could really tell the difference) + limited edition / investment potential, make it a no-brainer purchase. I'm sure it'll sell very well.
When it comes to special edition Porsche's I'm reminded of the Howard Marks sardines joke...
"Two friends meet in the street, and Joe asks Sam what’s new. “Oh,” he replies, “I just got a case of great sardines.”
Joe:
Great, I love sardines. I’ll take some. How much are they?
Sam:
$10,000 a tin.
Joe:
What! How can a tin of sardines cost $10,000?
Sam:
These are the greatest sardines in the world. Each one is a pedigreed purebred, with papers. They were caught by net, not hook; deboned by hand; and packed in the finest extra-virgin olive oil. And the label was painted by a well-known artist. They’re a bargain at $10,000.
Joe:
But who would ever eat $10,000 sardines?
Sam:
Oh, these aren’t eating sardines; they’re trading sardines."

Anyone heard anymore on the rumours about the 992 Gen 2 GTS getting the NA 4.0?
I was told some time back (at the time of getting my gen.1 GTS Targa) that the gen.2 would be hybrid as the space is in the design for the electric motors. I have a deposit down on a replacement GTS Targa, and which likely kick it back to a gen.2 if it was offered earlier.

Porsche CEO stated in an interview maybe three or four years ago that 992.2 would be when they introduce hybrid…how far down the range it goes who knows. His comments were at the time “it will be the most powerful 911 ever” so I assume the new Turbo S flagship will be a hybrid. My guess is it will be something like the new AMG Merc with a small battery aimed at troque fill.
Pivo said:
Does this car give us some clues on 992.2?
I believe it will be the last of the 992.1 before the introduction of hybrid drivetrains in 992.2.
Same when 991R was introduced.. before Gen2
I have to say, of all the new releases I’m most looking forward to understanding the technical details on the ST.. I enjoy my Touring more than I did my RS for road driving I think this will be awesome, unless the make the suspension setup rock hard that is !

Yes would be nice but no wing and the handbrake ( Wife) would come with me in the car more often
I registered my interest in the ST a while ago - and I have to say I'm intrigued to know the detail; a GT3 RS 'Touring' type specification definitely appeals. I think the finer details, once revealed, could make it really quite special.

I do fear the weight will be minimum 1400kg.. i just cant see how they can get the ST much below the 992 3RS, very intrigued, they really are keeping theirs cards close to theirs chest with this model, the 911R was great, could this be even better?

Here's some of the bits he's produced for his 964 :
and his GT2 RS :
The calipers are made from forged aluminum lithium, the lightweight material currently used by F1 for their brake calipers. Pistons are titanium (obviously)
Blokes a certified Grade A nutter.
Beryllium is also a favourite of his, and I’m sure he’s got some Vibranium somewhere too! Lol.
I was initially very impressed by the materials engineering and effort, but for me it seemed like most of it is just a vanity project rather than for actual use and performance.
But fair play… looks fun.

Beryllium is nasty stuff to machine ... hence was banned by the FIA IIRC.
No doubt it is one (several) huge vanity projects, no harm in that whatsoever, and if I was in his position, ie in world class, high end motorsport component manufacturing, I'd be doing
exactly

Excellent driveshafts Paul
Those SC RS’s looked quick from where I was standing (stageside Circuit of Ireland 1986 and the RAC Rally 1984) and as for the sound ...
Sat/stood in the dark of Hamsterley you could hear those flat six MFi motors and all but straight through pipes ages before the cars arrived, and they were noisier than zany of the other then WRC cars

The R was/is a joke and not worthy of the R
Well it's a lovely thought/concept Paul, but we both know it ain't ever going to happen
How much did your ST weigh in circuit racing spec ?
Not sure if you're an Instagrammer (I suspect you're not, and I don't blame you)
I'm on there, but I lurk.
I suspect you know Mr Linton, or know of him ?
Here's some of the bits he's produced for his 964 :

and his GT2 RS :
The calipers are made from forged aluminum lithium, the lightweight material currently used by F1 for their brake calipers. Pistons are titanium (obviously)
Blokes a certified Grade A nutter.
St in circuit spec was around 870kg,mag wheels, small brakes, mag engine and box,ti rods, thin gauge steel panels, you could even buy a ti lsd with 270bhp and 8200 rpm.The 2.8 rsr is not that much heavier,a new st to be would be a lardy 1400kg min?
That’s seriously lightweight Paul
I suspect the new ST weight loss number will be the usual for a contemporary 911, ie a token amount to appeal to those looking to brag at the bar, rather than a significant figure that would actually change/improve the car’s dynamics. That means at least 100kg, and preferably 150.
Best summation : Unlikely to happen.
I always believed that Porsche was more go than show ... which appeals to me.
This is the opposite and on a supposedly very limited car I find it hard to conceive why they built it ... unless it is an art installation to be looked at and not driven. It certainly doesn't have the style of the cars chosen to represent the brand ... as driven by the Porsche family members.
But it cannot be compared to the likes of the Paul Smith Mini etc ... so ??? why ????
Just another sign how far Porsche has declined chasing a buck. If they are not reissuing more and more previous model lineages as limited editions they have now made Sonderwunsch comical. Not a good look. Yep Customer and Dealer Happy, but Porsche Shouldn’t be.

They must have been a hell of a client to have been allowed to spec that.
Although I am quite fond of the glove box lining.
Pepita glovebox is a bit random though because there is no pepita anywhere else eg seats or door cards.
I suspect because pepita is the only fabric they will allow in the glove box. I tried tartan but computer said nein. But I do have tartan in the frunk. Go figure!

Put you down as a "maybe" then?

Maybe, guess I'd just need to get the medication right. Probably two tabs.

Beggars belief but is it REALLY the last analog 911? I’d have said yes last year but the world is changing so fast I’m not so sure.
The last analog 911 was probably the 930

Sold for £426,000…someone liked it!
One of my friends was the underbidder on this.
He set himself a limit of £375k ,but got carried away.
He was very relieved this morning.
One went through CC a few weeks ago for around 353k inc fees with 25 miles on it, the blue one was VAT deductible so I guess that had something to do with the final hammer price as £71k of it was VAT, perhaps bought for export.

Clearly client has no sense of humor and a s
tload of money… No way Porsche should have entertained that monstrosity..
I'm not sure, its absolutely awful maybe that's why I kinda like it. And this is from someone who posted a plain silver one as my perfect (dreamers) spec.

Finally collected my S/T. OPC organised it at a gallery rather than at the centre itself which was a lovely touch.
Congratulations. That is a stunning spec. Was that interior a special wishes order (or whatever its called)? The colour combo is sublime. What colour is that?
Definitely the nicest spec one I have seen. Great job.

Thanks!
Colour is stone grey with some creme bits including the wheels. The whole interior was redone by the Sonderwunsch dept after the car rolled off the production line (from the rooflining to the carpets).
Also the frunk was redone
Sunny weather, starting the running in process!
Thanks gents!
Sonderwunsch were great with the details as well.
For example rather than the big roundels on the doors we embossed the dash ends inside the car:
I wanted blue and red centre locks on right/left of the car like the Carrera GT, whilst that wasn’t possible we did coloured wheel centres:
Thanks again gents. Been out in the sun continuing the running in process. Had to drop the pressures as I think they come slightly too high. The suspension is perfect for the road. You have to use the clutch like in a Carrera GT from a stop, and when you’re on the move the gearbox is fantastic and really rewards fast changes. Easy to heel and toe. The lower pressures solve what felt like a slightly floaty rear end. The engine is a masterpiece, especially when it revs as fast as this. Really enjoying getting to learn the S/T, back out again tomorrow!
