company said i could use my own specialist if i faxed a quote and paid for it ...so i did and they sent me a cheque less my excess!

Looked out the window Sat am and thought 'yes I'll take the 911 down to Wales' - ended up scuffing an alloy and received a huge crack in the windscreen from a stone. I'm insured with Privilege. Hi there most insurers have windscreen firms that they are contracted to and they bill the insurer and you pay an xs (normal is £50) Most insurers will let you take your car to any firm u like but will only pay out the ammount that the firm they deal with charges them! So going main dealer may still leave you with a wad to pay. This is what i have been told by some firms but its allways best to phone your policy holder to double check. hi yes i just had saame prob.. my car service people said dont use autoglass as they often damage body work so the insurance company said i could use my own specialist if i faxed a quote and paid for it ...so i did and they sent me a cheque less my excess! worked out fine in the end!
