Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Currently driving a Audi RS38Y previously owned a Alpine A110 but with the demise of ICE I've been fancying a Carrera S (two/three year old) low mileage as a long term keeper and everyday car, what are the general running costs mpg, tyre life, servicing etc, and do owners stay with Porsche for servicing after three years or switch to a Independent Porsche specialist to save on cost? what extras are a must? and are there any known problems to look out for with this series. Been following the ads for a few months and even low mileage one owner cars don't seem to be selling is this down to the current cost of living crisis or unrealistic pricing, web. valuation prices are well under the advertised price. POST 2Original post

I ran a 992S for 3years and found it a rewarding car to own/drive that could do track days and touring trips without any problems or extra expense service costs, £1000 for 2year and £1500 for 4 year at OPC Once out of warranty an extended warranty from the OPC is a wise move Fuel consumption between 22 and 35 depending on driving style is usual and the 8 speed DCT can be both an economical cruise and in sport plus quite quick My best advice is to treat yourself to a PEC day and see how the S performs. Frankly it’s more competent and easier to live with than the 991.2GT3 is

POST 3Original post

Porsche autos are PDK not DCT. PDK is an excellent gearbox if uninvolving but personal choice would dictate which box you choose. Depending on the model of 911, I generally prefer manuals in an increasingly diluted world where autos will be the only option in the near future. Basic Carrera S a touch bland tbh so consider perhaps a GTS or T.Try a GT3 also they are great cars and more compliant than you might think. As ever spend at least half a day with each model drive your favourite road which is the only way to decide which model you will truly gel with.

POST 4Original post

Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe = Porsche Double-clutch transmission

POST 5Original post

Apologies for the DCT blunder! It’s interesting you find the 992 somewhat bland and obviously opinions vary and equally valid I’m not sure how long/ what mileage you’re GT3 experience covers but as a daily I found the 992 S much easier to live with and created less attention . which I value

POST 6Original post

Not a blunder at all. PDK is a DCT; you’re right. Just Porsche’s german name for it as above. Carrera S a nice car. Do try a few and see what you like but watch the specs carefully. You might find you like one Carrera S but not another so important to understand why. Eg some have sports suspension; others don’t. Similarly some will have high tyre pressures, or old tyres. Enjoy finding out. You won’t go very far wrong in my view :-)

POST 7Original post

had a brand new 992 gts recently and hated the -10pasm chassis with a passion on UK roads. tried a 992 S just to compare and thought, this is the car i should have bought. Alas, and contrary to OP, i bought an Alpine A110 gt and over the moon with it.

Alas, and contrary to OP, i bought an Alpine A110 gt and over the moon with it. It's such a shame that Porsche salesmen don't understand and convey just how different the -10mm PASM is on the GTS, when they can also be ordered with the normal suspension at no cost. The spring rate is nearly doubled, fine if you're buying a GTS as a GT3 substitute, but not for buyers who wanted a relatively comfortable daily driver and then find their teeth getting rattled on the terrible British roads.

Is the spring rate similar on the 911.2 GTS? I was under the impression with 991.2 it was just lowered???

I don't know about the 991.2, but I know on the 992 it was and a lot of people have moaned about it. You can see the 992 spring rates at 5:49 on this video https://youtu.be/rvapkpuH6f0?feature=shared

POST 11Original post

I posted on another thread that my local OPC told me they had bought back most of the GTS they had originally sold as many people were not expecting them to be so stiff! 147 used GTS on the Porsche site

POST 12Original post

What would a set of standard springs and dampers cost to swap? Or isn’t it that simple.

POST 13Original post

Don't forget the cost of maintaing the Porsche warranty as repair bills can be significant. The 6 year service is also the biggest and most expensive one.

POST 14Original post

This one seems like a bit of a unicorn - PTS AND Heritage interior for an S. Like a more affordable Sports Classic vibe. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202602190...

POST 15Original post

I’ve owned a 992 S manual with the standard (not -10mm sport) suspension from new for nearly 3 years. Awesome car, mpg mid-20s, I’ve just had one service so far and the cost was approx £1k. The ride is perfect for UK roads, not too stiff but body roll still well controlled particularly in Sport or Sport+ mode.

POST 16Original post

Yes, you re quite right about the standard suspension settings, which I think are/were only available on the Base and S models, being more comfortable on British roads, and better ground clearance for daily use. Sadly the .2 Base or S doesn t have the Manual option, only auto.

POST 18Original post

I've a 992.1 on standard PASM (not the -10mm drop) and everyone who's been in the car who has experience of older 911's has commented on how well resolved they felt the car is. Got to say, after 6months of owning the car, I'm blown away by it. It's my daily and I've quickly racked up 4k miles versus the 5k I put down for my annual mileage expectation. I've upped that now to 8k as I'm clearly using the car for virtually every journey I can. I've done a few long trips from Essex up to the Lake District and Yorkshire - on an economy run, I see 35mpg. My station run is c 10miles which yields 20-22mpg. Over the 4k the trip is showing 25.4mpg which I think is super for the performance on offer. I've been running winters since Oct and they've improved the handling a lot since the temps dropped. I am however looking forward to getting back to the sticky summer set on RS wheels in April once temps start holding up again. I've got a big (6yr) service coming up in April next year plus I'll be extending the 2yr Porsche Warranty so expecting £4-5k lump sum out of the door then but the Porsche warranty has always been good to me and allowed me to sleep at night on previous cars I've owned. But it's such a good all-rounder for me as a second car with 3kids (it's either me alone - mostly or me and the kids or me and the wife - we have a Disco when we're 5 up). Would struggling to think of something I'd be happy dailying which has the same mix of performance, looks and practicality. No regrets this end. I'll be running this for at least another 5yrs and will likely then replace with another of the same (whether late 992.2 or whatever the next model is). POST 19Original post

I’ve been running a 992s several years. Rich mans golf, compliant suspension, drive it all year round, wet mode really useful, with almost supercar performance when you want it. 2 year service intervals. Like everyone says - avoid spasm. Great car for just over £70k now. I don’t really understand the gt cars for 99% of driving.

POST 20Original post

Have owed a 992.2 CS for 6 months now and absolutely love it.. They just do everything well.. Floria based tuner M-Engineering put the latest .2 CS on a dyno and it achieved around 540hp, that was tested in mid 30's deg and high humidity.. G https://www.m-engineering.us/products/m-flash-pors...
