Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I ran a 996.1 GT3 on steels against a 996.2 GT3 on the then Gen1 pccbs and there was a noticeable improvement in road refinement.

This was brought to my attention 20 years ago, in a racing environment, and then further confirmed, in road use, by Geoff Turral when he was head of Porsche GB.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
17 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Nope but I do have BBS FI-R’s and OEM wheels on my 991.2 which I do swap over….might be the placebo effect but I do think there’s a very slight difference in how the car rides. Obviously only something you’d notice immediately after change and on a road you know well.
They’re about half the weight saving of the PCCB’s.

Stunning wheel and interesting. Maybe not a major difference but a small improvement
Reduced ‘unsprung’ weight (the mass of the vehicle not supported by the suspension) has a number of benefits, inc reduced NVH and improved ride comfort, because the suspension reacts more quickly to changes in the road surface, allowing the tyres to maintain better contact.
The combination of ceramic brakes and lwt wheels should provide the most noticeable difference.

For these and other reasons, I’ve specified pccbs since, specifically for road use.
Thanks, it’s funny as PPCBs give the impression they’re for the ultimate fade free track performance but for many they seem to be best applied for road use to deliver the above benefits. And avoid high replacement cost when used on track meaning track cars are often on steels!

Quite interesting talking about PCCB and going to steels.
Super expensive to replace, but not bad for 22 years and 8 owner car! Who know what it’s been through in those years

Yep - a dead clutch at 35,000 miles too.
The steels feel pretty good on a 911 - I am really not convinced about ceramics or indeed centre locks. I just want an easy life.
Well, I voted with my wallet and bought this new addition to the fleet! PDK CS with PCCBs. Early days but it s blown me away so far (4 days into ownership) and keeping the 997 GTS manual company nicely!
I’m amazed by how well it rides given the handling.

Beauty, congrats.
Thanks all, it really is a dream come true and so far I cannot quite believe it’s mine when I look at it in the garage. Can’t wait to get to know it better and cover some serious miles and maybe venture on track once it twice to experience its full potential at least once.

it's half the weight saving but as that saving is applied quite a bit further from the centre of rotation, the overall reduction on moment of intertia might well be greater for wheel rims vs brakes. curiously, that also applies to the weight difference between a shiny new and used tyre and while many regularly compliment the 'unsprung weight differential' for improved feel in ceramics vs steel but never negatively comment on a new set of tyres going on.....

I assumed that the new tyre “uplift” was because the fresh rubber was a bit more compliant.

I think our friend is meaning the increase in unsprung mass from new tyres is never negatively commented on (he's a cynic
)
