Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'damp in the air' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'damp in the air' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Use air blower' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Hi Ray, after a wash i tend to use an air blower on the wheels and brakes and always park in 1st with the hand brake off.

Just make sure you clean it all off before using your brakes.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello friends.
My 996 C4 was last used in October for a trip to London and since has been sitting in my home garage.
I noted that the brake discs all have some surface rust on them. What is the best way of keeping this from getting worse? Is it a case of leaving it and just driving the car once the rain stops?
Thanks
Park up with them dry, but seeing as they're made from cast iron and the car is in a cold environment, it's virtually impossible as condensation that forms on them will just make them oxidise.
As Alex say's. You can't stop it unless your car lives in a heated and insulated garage. Even then , if you finish a drive in the wet they'll still flash rust almost instantly.
Some enthusiastic braking will soon clean them up.
Thanks all! All useful information. The car was totally dry when i parked it up. My garage is wet and not heated. Its single skin, so would be difficult to heat. Perhaps I could insulate it....
This surface rust is due to the damp in the air. I once had a boxster 986S i parked up after washing and left it with handbrake on. When i came to drive it, the discs were so bad, they needed replacing. Not something i want to repeat.
Thanks Skoosh1970 - I will have to empty the garage of all the detritus i have collected. Its a UK double garage so should be plenty.
I will hire a skip to empty this spring and then plan to insulate over the summer. I will pop you a PM now.
