Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I think I'll get my indy to take a close look and see what actually needs replacing/refreshing.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
I’ve got a 2001 C4 and and think it could do with a suspension refresh as it’s on the original setup. I’m not after anything adjustable, or track focussed just new suspension, so I’m interested what the cost is likely to be? Should I buy the kit and get my local Indy to do the install and what kit should I get?
Stu..
Just had a quick look. If you're just thinking shocks and springs then standard Bilsteins are £750 for a pair of front shocks, £540 for a pair of rears and around £220 for a pair of front springs off Porsche. I never changed the rear springs on mine, only fronts. You then have other stuff like top mounts, bump stops, etc. You then also have any other stuff whilst in there. I fit new wheel bearings on my fronts last year whilst I had the hubs off. Bearings were only £50 each but I bitch of a job to do as all bolts where seized in the cover plate.
There seems to be a lot of ‘creaking’ going on when I drive over speed bumps so I could probably do with getting them looked at first so what actually needs replacing.
There are more than 30 components apart from the shock absorbers and springs. Copy pasting the main ones from CG's blog:
2x front top mounts
2x track control arms
2x diagonal control arms
2x inner rod end
2x outer rod end
2x front ARB bush
2x front ARB drop links
2x rear top mounts
2x track control arms
2x diagonal control arms
4x upper link arms
2x toe arms
2x rear ARB bush
2x rear ARB drop links
etc. + the shocks and springs. It's like asking how long a piece of rope is. The only vendor that does a kit afaik is Spyder performance, and you should read reviews about them before committing. I would personally only get Spyder components for some parts from the above list, definitely not all and especially the most failure-prone/important ones
It's usually the lower arms that need doing. All 4 corners have a coffin arm and control arm, and the rears also have a track control arm for the tracking and front track rod ends.
A set like this can be purchased that has all of them in one package:

Be careful when removing bolts out of aluminium uprights. The bolts are steel and slightly too long so the end of the bolt will rust, so when you screw them out you strip the threads out the uprights.
Inspect the bolt first, then you need to dremel the rusty bit off or cut the hex off and screw it out the bottom.
Or, helicoil after.
Just done this very job last week
Spyder full suspension refresh it, all new hardware
Koni active shocks front and back with h&r lowering springs
The above in parts is circa 2.5k plus labour
My trusted local Indy did it for me in 10 hours.
It's a bit of a job - but will transform your car, so well worth it. Get started - then it's too late and you will have to finish.
Perfectly doable at home if you are handy with the spanners. If you run into trouble the forum will be here to provide advise.
Cheers for all the great advice. I think I'll get my indy to take a close look and see what actually needs replacing/refreshing. Not point replacing the lot if I don't need to.

Sorry edit they are for C2
Nine Excellence quoted a friend of mine £3k for a full suspension refresh for 996.2 C2:
4 x Lower control arms (coffin arms)
4 x Trailing arms (tuning fork arms)
4 x Rear upper arms (dog bone arms)
2 x Rear Toe control arms
4 x Antiroll bar drop links
2 x Inner steering rack joints and gaiters
2 x Track rod ends
New eccentric adjuster bolts and fixings
All labour to replace parts and carry out a geometry set up.
Using all meyle and lemforder. What does everyone think of this?
Does it actually need all those parts?
I recommend Center Gravity in Atherstone, Warwickshire. They will check everything and only replace the bits that need replacing.
