I don't know if my age is against me here (I am 33) but I have held my license since I was 17, have had my own policy for 10 years and have full NCB, I have had one accident in all that time (2004 - third party shunted the car behind me who then hit me whilst I was parked at a set of traffic lights so not my fault and the costs were recovered) and I have a clean licence.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dear all, Have any of you out there had a breath of fresh air with insurance renewals, i'm driving a 996 2001 (3.4L), full no claims and best quote to date is £1100.00, i don't have a tracker fitted, does anybody know of any better deals???? Thanks & Regards, NTH[8|]

POST 2Original post

Try First Alternative, they do not care about a tracker...

POST 3Original post

Mine is a 996 C4 2000, no tracker and 3 points Liverpool and Victoria is still £890 inc legal cover and courtesy car. "But you don't have to be posh to be Privilege". Privilege promises to beat your renewal quote if you have 4 years no claims. Joanna Lumley told me so.[ ] Simon

POST 4Original post

Adrian Flux £496 for balding 'ole git with one claim in 20 years, garaged and restricted mileage. Full NCB & Protected.

POST 5Original post

Whilst Performance Marque have taken a bit of a knocking on the forum over the past week, I have just renewed with them, the cost this year went DOWN by £1500, mind you I can't believe it cost that much last year[ ].....depreciation being kind to me maybe??[ ] Track day cover is now £95 per trackday (any approved track) with excess at 10% of value.. Made a claim a couple of years ago(no fault) and I was very happy with the way it was dealt with. Garyw

POST 6Original post

02, 3.6, Full NCD, Tracker (but not mandatory) - Norwich Union Direct - £690

POST 7Original post

this should make you feel better Full no claims 35 lady driver 3 points - £1400 - cheapest. However we do live in Bradford [ ]

POST 8Original post

Adrian Flux £653 They didn't charge extra for the Sports Pack like a lot of other companies wanted to charge for lowered suspension, sports seats, etc. Unlimited Mileage, Protected NCD, Spouse as Named Driver, No Tracker, etc..... Mark

POST 9Original post

I'm sorry but that is just extortionate. You should not pay more than £900 pa for a 911 unless you keep having accidents. Bradford or no bradford thats too much and i advise you to change immediatly and with the money you save have a nice weekend in Paris with your partner and toast the new insurer.[ ]

POST 10Original post

I am puzzled as to how those of you insured with Adrian Flux all seem to have gotten a lower premium than me ! Admitedly, I have previously been insured with "Cherisehd/Classic Car" type insurers who do not grant NCB on their limited mileage policies, so I only started off with an introductory NCB of 2 years, but, even so, on the basis of those premiums put forward by other AF clients, I would have thought that I should be paying a lot less than the £700 I am paying ! How much NCB have you guys got ? Steve Lyden-Brown.

POST 11Original post

Hello Pete B, Well done for getting such a bloody low quote from Adrian Flux, but just how did you manage to get ! Do have have a full NCB ? I cannot understand how I am charged £717 and yet you paid less than £500.00 ? Here is a thumb nail sketch of me and my circumstances to give you a comparison guide. I am in my '50's and retired ( effectively ! ) and live in Hertfordshire. I have a clean licence and an accident free record but lost my 70% NCB when I switched to a "Cherished Car" policy a couple of years ago. I do put " 'er Indoors" on my cover, but she is old enough to not be penalised for lack of experience and also has had no accidents, although does have one SP 30 nick on her licence ( 48 in a 40 MPH zone). I garage my car and also insure a lot of other exotica with Flux, although I may not do so next year !!!! Cheers, Marlin.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

NTH back.. Flux offerred me 871 this morning compared with 1195 as cheapest elsewhere, this was with additional protected NCD which was worth the extra 40 quid. Eventhough i've got a cracking reduction of over 300 quid i can share Marlins sentiments over the fluctuations of prices fromthe same comapny, however, living in Tyneside, i'm pleased i could qualify in the first place! Thanks to all for the help, much appreciated!

POST 13Original post

Nth, Sorry you did not get as low as my £653. SLB As a comparison I am late 40's, had 10 years NCD. Adrian Flux were £173 cheaper than Admiral and £250+ cheaper than a lot of the others I tried which were discussed on the forum. As a another plus to the premium was unlimted mileage. Mark

POST 14Original post

Hi Steve, circumstances similar to your own. Semi-retired, 56 years young, full protected NCB, was garaged and shackled to floor, no points, last woopsie in 1998, previous in 1986. No little woman on policy (couldn't press clutch to carpet), also 2 other cars and a fooking bike (which scares the $**t out of me) on separate policies all with their own NCBs built up over the millenia and living on the shores of sunkissed Liverpool Bay AKA Costa del Merseyside. Apparently, they find salmon in the Mersey now. Dead, of course.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Tesco and Sainsburys worth a go. LV quoted me £1120 and Tesco £785 - their website gives 10% discount compared to telephone so worth it - web site is very straight forward with no irrelevant questions. Good luck

POST 16Original post

Many thanks, Pete B, for the helpful insight. All things considered, there are an awful lot of similarities between you and I and certainly too many for me not to be concerned about having to pay AF another 50% more. And as for you, Mark, well, 10% NCB is going to cut an awful lot of ice, hence you getting the low rate you did ! All in all, I cannot but help think that my big mistake was putting " 'er Indoors" on the cover, since it wasn't so bad when she was a Sunday School teacher, but now her daytime job is a stuntwoman and her evening occupation is a pole dancer, I guess that I am going to get caned a tad or two ! Steve.

POST 17Original post

If you want to do PCGB track days A.Manning should be considered (I now use them and chose limited mileage).

POST 18Original post

Hello Pete B, How are things with you ? Thanks for the info provided so far. I have now gotten Adrian Flux to concede that there IS an anomaly between the premiums that we both pay, given that our situations are so similar. They want to do an analysis of the circumstances and can't do a detailed one in the absence of having your client ref no. or some other such info. If you are willing to provide this you could always email me direct if you wanted to on [email removed] . or just respond via the Forum. Needless to say, if their analysis leads to a reduction in my premium, I will certainly be happy to express my appreciation of your help to me in a serioulsy tangible way ! Cheers, Steve Lyden Brown.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Guys, It's that time of year again and my insurance is due for renewel at the end of the month. I received my renewel notice this morning and was a little shocked that is had gone up over £300 so here I am looking for your recommendations. The following companies quoted prices without a Tracker: Bell Direct: £1,178.05 Liverpool Victoria: £1,268.28 - was £890 last year (increase due to reclassification of vehicle) Norwich Union: £1,279.00 Porsche Insurance: £1,561.49 Nowell & Richards: £1,720.00 Performance Marque: £1,842.43 Insurance World: £1916.20 Adrian Flux: £2,000+ Hastings: £2,000+ Lancaster Insurance: £2,557.41 The following companies required a tracking device (Tracker, RAC Trackstar, etc...) to be fitted: Performance Insurance: £963.00 First Alternative: £1,032.56 Egg: £1,164.45 but would go to £958-65 with a £1,000 excess. A. Mannings: £1,189 (Price includes Porsche Club published Track Day use) Performance Direct: £1,300 I don't know if my age is against me here (I am 33) but I have held my license since I was 17, have had my own policy for 10 years and have full NCB, I have had one accident in all that time (2004 - third party shunted the car behind me who then hit me whilst I was parked at a set of traffic lights so not my fault and the costs were recovered) and I have a clean licence. I would have thought I would be a model insuree ;-) Cheers Steve

POST 20Original post

Steve, Try DirectLine http://www.directline.co.uk/ , we've recently acquired our fist 911 a 2000 996 Carerra and Direct Line were the cheapest out of the 10 or so insurers we tried. They don't require a tracker, even though our car had an RAC TrackStar fitted by the last owner, we didn't get any discount for having it. Steve.

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I also live in lovely Bradford, whichever car I get next (m3/M5/996) is going to cost around £2000 to insure, despite only 3 points and 7 years NCB.......extortionate, but a small price to pay to live in this lovely city!

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Guys, First of all I would like to thank everyone that responded to my post, either here or directly via e-mailed - many thanks. I have now decided to fit an RAC Trackstar unit after being told that is can be moved from vehicle to vehicle - which need to be performed by an approved fitter and will be subject to an installation fee. You will notice that I have updated the list of quotes in my original post to include most of what I received - I hope these are useful to people. Cheers again Steve

POST 23Original post

Hi Steve - very useful, thanks. If it makes you feel better, I'm 35 and Performance Marque have just written to me to ask for £1800+ next year. Ho hum ... I suppose I'd better ring them all ... what fun!

POST 24Original post

There is a point worth mentioning that I was unaware off. When I was 35 I was kicked out of the Fire Service after an injury and when my insurance company found out I had "effectively retired" they slapped a huge increase on my premium. When I questioned it they said that now I had more time on my hands I would be on the road more! Even though I pointed out that I would no longer be traveling 160 miles a day round trip from East Sussex to Tottenham for 4 days out of 7. Just thought I would point out for the wrinklies that being retired makes you more of a risk---- (apparently)

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Good luck - It will be interesting to know what quotations you get. If you do try any other companies that I didn't please let me know the results so I can update the list to be as comprehensive as possible. Cheers Steve

POST 26Original post

Also keep in mind your occupation and location plays a major part; I work in the video games industry and if I put my occupation as technical director, entertainment industry then my quote shoots up by at least £500 but after I have started stating my occupation as software engineering manager (which is what I am) I have been getting much favourable quote. On top of the obvious things like tracker, no claim bonus, over 25, etc here are a couple of other things, not so obvious, to keep in mind: 1. Garage and driveway are preferred. Even street parking seems to get better quotes than a private car park; public car park is the worst. 2. Having a second driver as female (spouse or co-habitate) who has her own car for regular use also really helps (doesn't seem to be favoured by sports car specialist like A. Manning, etc though) 3. Annual mileage really helps (I think below 7K is the most favoured) as lower the mileage, the less you will be on the road, minimising the risk of accidents. 4. As mentioned above, any occupation related to entertainment, sports, broadcasting, motoring sports industry is considered as a high risk group (you have the young footballers crashing sports cars to blame for this statistical risk)

POST 27Original post

Insurance has always been a hot, money making, business... and for that reason and for our benefit I am trying to create a database at: http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=119174&mpage=1&key=insurance&#119174 All pointers are correct, I would add the follwowing two: 1. Always shop around and bargain one against the other over a week's long time and then 2. Try to purchase the cover at the close of business, on Friday afternoon. [ ]

POST 28Original post

Well, I had time to try two brokers at lunchtime today. A Manning can quote £1300, with no mileage limit, a rather small excess, European use, recovery service, and all PCGB trackdays thrown in. I wonder if the European use covers the Nurburgring? I'd ask (just out of interest [8|]) but Ben Lovejoy warns that this is a dangerous question! Note that there is also a "Manning" insurance broker who is not the same one, so take care when Googling [ ]. They seem to be a bit bored with Porsche and TVR owners asking for quotes. Adrian Flux offer £1050 but can't protect the NCB at that price and don't cover trackdays - although one-off daily cover can be arranged for extra £££s. Performance Marque have come down to £1850 all in but want £93 per track day and will only do it if you are within a long list of underwriting conditions*, although they are trying to get it included free again. I think we must all have been whinging about that one. They were a bit surprised at £1300 so a manager is going to call me back. We'll see if s/he does .... ! A Manning seem to be ahead so far....[ ] Michael --------------------- *Can't remember them all but I think they included: - must have been to a track day before - excess is 10% of the car's value [ouch!] - max payout is £100k - no cover for mechanical problems not caused by an accident - track must be MSA approved - just you & spouse driving

POST 29 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

In case you are interested for comparison the TT bumps the premium up quite a bit, not least due to the value of the thing. I need unlimited mileage, business class 1 use, protected NCB and it's parked on the street, and I have full NCB and (so far) no points. Insurance is 1800 notes, through a broker, but cover is with Zurich Private Clients. No trackday cover though, and the Nurburgring is excluded although it doesn't explictly say it anywhere, but I asked out of curiosity and they seem to think the answer is no. Not sure what clause might cover that interpretation.

POST 31Original post

Direct Line, cheapest by a long shot £ 1000 full comp, protected NCB (9 years), garaged, limited to 8000 miles a year (which I will never do because it is a second car, or should that say "toy") I'm 31 and a company director. They didn't require that the car needed a tracking device (even though it has one anyway)

POST 32Original post

Just got my renewal through Privilege. Last year 1475, this year 1275 with no claims protected, 3k miles pa limit Car is a 993 TTS, garaged, tracker, 7 years no claims, 33 yrs living in Kent/London borders

POST 33Original post

I'm insured with Prestige at a little under £800. Even though they insist I have a Tracker fittedfFrom what I've been able to find out none of central Scotland police traffic departments actually have hardware to track the damn thing if the car does get nicked! Waste of money or what?

POST 34 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That's a very good price. Can I ask what age the car is? It should be noted that even though most insurance companies ask for a Tracker to be fitted they normally mean any Thatcham Q approved tracking device such as RAC Trackstar+, iMob etc... and those others are normally GPS based so don't require the police to have the special Tracker hardware fitted to their vehicles. I guess they got into the habit of calling them Trackers a bit like we call vacum cleaners Hover's [ ] I had my Trackstar fitted yesterday so that will keep my insurance company happy now. I can recommend it has it has optional features such as Safe Speed, Emergency Call feature, Breakdown Call function and European Cover (useful for those PCGB trips abroad) and can also be moved to another car when changing vehicles. But then again I'm slightly biased as I worked for Trafficmaster a few years ago! Kind Regards Steve

POST 35Original post

I used to live in Mudchute on the Isle of Dogs which for all you non East Enders is about as scruffy an area as you'd ever want to park your motor. A few weeks ago I moved to leafy Clarkenwell, from on street to secure underground with residents only access plus CCTV - I called Norwich Union to "quote me happy" and the villains jacked my quote up from £900 to £1500! Time to get on the 'net methinks....Oh, AND I have to give Ken £240 a year for the privelege of driving my car to my house as it's in the congestion charge zone.
