Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have one in my 996 turbo and want to remove it to relocate the daft auxiliary box stuck in my cubby, horseshoe off and console sides, don't want to damage anything, tips for removing ?

POST 2Original post

Pretty straight forward - remove the horseshoe surround - unplug the switches from the back. Then you will see four torques bolts - remove these and the unit should pull out. You may need to bring the cup holder out with it. I mounted the aux box on the tray on the top of the PCCM+ unit. Then ran a long USB cable into the cubby behind the handbrake (between the two seats), plus one into the cubby underneath the PCCM+. I have seen some people put them into the glove box or even down the side of the centre console. Good luck!

POST 3Original post

I’ve positioned mine to the right of the cubby, see pic below

POST 5Original post

Yes - remove the four T20's and then the unit will come out with the plastic frame. As above, the cupholder may have to come with it too.

POST 6Original post

Torque bolts..... what are they !!??? Every bolt is applied with torque. I think you mean "Torx". Carry on. Pip

Never seen this PCCM in a 996. Looks quite good.

POST 8Original post

I am very pleased with mine. However.... they are rather expensive and not as advanced as you would hope (no wire-less car play). There is a Chinese version that looks just as good and is a fraction of the price. There is a good thread on here somewhere.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Mine came with the car, certainly wouldn't pay the £1650+ for one (plus fitting) doing my head in with the auxiliary unit stuck in the cubby. Corneg, air vents stay in place then?

POST 10Original post

@Frenchmeister - When I fitted mine, pretty sure the air vents needed to slot into the frame that the PCCM+ is seated in. So the air vents needed to come out with the frame, and then go back in after the frame was in place but not bolted up. If that makes sense...

POST 11Original post

@Frenchmeister - If you are stuck we can have a WhatsApp video call if that helps. Or depending on where you are we could try to meet up - I am in Bourne Lincs.

POST 12Original post

On a 996.2, once the horseshoe is off and the wires disconnected, you need to remove the air vents and cup holder. It's quite easy you need to get a thin screwdriver/pick and look inside the vents (head torch helps)... you will see in the top slot there is a metal spring tab on each side that you need to pull down slightly with your pick whilst pulling the vents gently out towards you. I usually do it one side at a time and try to get both disengaged at the same time then the whole assembly (vents/cupholder) just slide out together and give you loads of room to remove the whole plastic cage assembly with the head unit in it, via a torx bolt in each corner.
