That’s interesting, I had mine mapped a short while back, the guy who did it has lots of experience with them, I’ve known him for 30+ years, he’s a no ***** kind of bloke, when I asked him whether it was worth changing the exhaust, he said don’t bother.

I've just found an old gopro vid of my speedo, 30-130 is 12 sec dead, that was with a fair bit of PSM light in second ( it was damp) and changing gear at 5750 ish, also gentle gear changes.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, am coming to the end of the tuning project on my 996 Turbo and was wondering if anyone has a standard 996 Turbo and a Durametric cable and could post up some performance data and compare to mine? I couldn't get a baseline from my car when it was standard because the wastegate arm on one of my turbos had snapped before I bought it and so the upgraded turbos went on right away. The video below walks you through how to do the datalogging (exact same process for 997T and 996T) - it's essentially just doing a full throttle run in third gear with the laptop connected and running. I can email you the "Recall" file he mentions, this website won't let me attach it. Anyway, basics are Billet K16 turbos with all the supporting mods (fueling, cooling etc), working out the bhp from the acceleration data it comes in at around 600 bhp. Starts to build boost from 1800 rpm and really gets going from 2800 rpm, peaking at 1.4 bar at 3600 rpm and then holding nicely until the redline. Suffice to say, the car is properly rapid - the tired oem suspension was completely incapable of managing the power, but it's now all refreshed and upgraded along with the brakes and it is an incredibly capable car. I'd like to compare it to a 992 Turbo S as I suspect it will hold up very well. Tried some initial GPS performance logging, but the surface was damp and I struggled to get a good launch - trying to find a private road to do these is obviously not straight-forward! In perfect conditions with a good launch I reckon it's capable of a low 3 second 0-60 mph and knocking a second off the 1/4 mile and 0-100 mph. 30-130 should be pretty accurate, maybe a small amount of time to be saved on warm tyres and dry surface. Thanks, would be great to compare them to a standard car - surely there must be a 996T owner on here with a Durametric cable?!

I'm more interested in turbo spool, AFRs and inlet temps than outright performance.

I've just found an old gopro vid of my speedo, 30-130 is 12 sec dead, that was with a fair bit of PSM light in second ( it was damp) and changing gear at 5750 ish, also gentle gear changes. I was also surprised to see it needed a change to 5th to get to 130. I've always assumed it's flashed as it boosts to 1.0 bar, no other mods. Don't know how accurate it is going from the speedo?! I do have a durametric but don't currently have a working laptop!

POST 7Original post

I have some Durametric data from my car, I did it for Markski - he asked for 3k to 6k flat out pull. Standard turbos and no tune, there's no real "power boosting" mods on it - just basic bolt-ons.

1.0 bar is definetely remapped assuming everything is working properly, does your car have an aftermarket exhaust? This is typically changed when people remap for easy power gains for not much money. I've found the boost gauge in the dash to be pretty accurate, although its refresh rate is pretty low.

Would love to see it if you can share? Markski tuned my car too - he's the real deal.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 2758117

He may well be right - mine is aftermarket but isn't particularly larger bore than oem and can handle 600 bhp, so I wouldn't be surprised if the oem one can handle 500 bhp. Most people change it for the sound and a less restrictive exhaust is always beneficial to turbocharged cars.

POST 13Original post

Yes mine has a standard exhaust, I'm sure it would be better performance wise if I had a freer flowing exhaust but it's not exactly slow or unresponsive now and I know I'm in a minority (tiny!) who like their car to be quiet so I can have a bit of fun without the Karen's noticing!!
