0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Suspected cause

Seems that the problem is with the ASK amp.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I am installing an Android headunit in my 987.1 Cayman S with the 9-speaker ASK amp system and CD changer. I believe this system is called Sound Package Plus (SPP or SP+). Based on wiring diagrams I found online, I understand that the 987.1 ASK amp powers only the low frequency door speakers and the center dash speaker. The remaining six speakers are powered directly by the headunit. This car also has the orange optical wires. I don’t know whether these are for the CD changer or for communicating with the ASK amp. My new android headunit accepts the three standard Porsche connectors except for the optical wires. Note that I didn’t purchase the optional adapter for optical wires since it’s marketed for BOSE systems only. After installation, the six non-ASK speakers work perfectly, but there is no sound from the three ASK amp powered speakers. Could this be due to the optical connecter not being plugged into anything? Do I need a MOST adapter? Alternatively, do I need to connect the optical wires into an optical loop bypass? If the optical connection isn't the problem, what could it be? POST 2Original post

We have a wiring diagram for the original ASK amp, and what appears to be a non-ASK, or later than 2009 ASK amp in your car. Let me see if I can find the ASK amp (ver 1) diagram... hang on... Found it: So the ASK amp amplifies (drives) the door big speaker (low frequency, not really a woofer) and the center dash speaker. The head unit drives the smaller (midrange) door speakers and the dash tweeters, plus if you have a Cayman - the two midrange speakers in the cross bar in the rear. I have no idea why the MOST bus (orange fibers) runs to the ASK amp input, maybe it simply loops around inside the unti to confirm it's connected. The MOST bus connectors do have to be terminated with a loop-through it's a one-way fiber bus and breaks in the loop will render it dead. If I spot the color coded wiring diagram for your ASK amp, I'll post that too.. it's certainly here somewhere...

POST 3Original post

Thank you for your reply. So your hunch is that a break in the MOST bus could be affecting the ASK amp? I purchased a MOST loop-through and will see if that resolves the issue.

POST 4Original post

Update: It seems that the Android headunit connection was not the problem - I reinstalled the stock Porsche headunit and discovered that the ASK amp-powered speakers (i.e. the two low frequency door speakers and the center dash speaker) dont work either. Seems that the problem is with the ASK amp. I'll start another thread on diagnosing it.

Do you have a link to the Android headunit you bought? I also have a 987.1 with the Sound Package Plus that I'm looking to upgrade to this same setup. How was your installation? Was it completely plug -and-play or did you need to splice any cables? Did you also install a backup camera? Any problems with the 4G/5G antenna or the GPS antenna?
