I went with the Focal as they seem to have a decent following on here. Yup, great fitment, and they definitely sound better than the SPP speakers.
Worthy upgrade for sure!
On big tip, before you put your panels back on, test your speaker wiring polarity. In my last pic, you'll see an inexpensive little meter than measures which way the cones are moving. You want all of them to match.
When I first installed my right door woofer, yup, that one was out of phase. When you have speakers out of phase, they will never sound good!
I'm considering doing a speaker upgrade for my
987.1
Cayman
, thanks for sharing this! Did you get a kit from Focal or just picked out individual speakers (which ones)? Are these wired into the stock head unit?
The ISU200 8 and tweeter set came from
Crutchfield
, the ISN100 mid-range speakers came from woofersetc.
Right now they are hooked to the factory ASK amp, but I am replacing that with a Kicker Key200 amp in near future. I'm also going to be replacing the factory stereo with a
Kenwood
DMX908S and adding the factory
Bose subwoofer
to the system, the one that lives in the passenger footwell.
How do you like the DMX908S? A friend of mine owns a high end mobile av shop told me that what I should get. How easy is it to use with wireless
CarPlay
and did you find a light scheme that looks good? BTW I am in the speaker manufacturing business and can tell you what you already know, Focals are top of the line. Likely I will use the same but with a JL amp.
Thanks. Good call on the anti-glare. It's a 12
Boxster
. I'll looked at the mount. I'll check with my bud. He has wood fab and 3D printers in his shop so who know what he has in mind.
Oh, another thing about the Kenwoods. Not sure if other brands do this, but with
Kenwood
, there's a special mystery menu that you can enter to put a custom splash screen on it. When I got mine from cai, he had already done it for me. It's just a really nice touch that gives a bit of an OEM look when firing up the radio.
One additional recommendation is the sound-deaden the door area around the mid/woofer, including directly in the hole/basket area near the door skin. Be mindful that most speakers for the door are infinite baffle, so don't make them air-tight when you fasten them in, or they may sound muddled or hardly move.
