Recently bought a 996 T, first job that I always do on new cars is to strip out the wheel arch liners, clean, protect and fettle anything in there, decided to pop the pads out for cleaning the calipers, had to rattle the retaining pin out, pads were stuck to the shims, basically they have all been replaced dry with no assembly lube, a previous owner has paid a decent chunk of money in the past for this!

how do you rate the difficulty of changing pads on a 996 ?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

All sorted now though

POST 2Original post

painful to sort when that happens and to your point annoying how do you rate the difficulty of changing pads on a 996 ?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Piece of P normally, but you should always lubricate touch points rather than fit dry. This was on the 996T not the C4, done the brakes all round on that ( front brake discs fitted the wrong way round FFS)

POST 4Original post

excellent work, which pads did you fit in the end ?

POST 5Original post

Quotes source post: 2771932

Aren't the shims supposed to be stuck to the pads? New shims come with a 3M adhesive layer supposedly to help pull the pads off the discs when easing off the brakes.

POST 6Original post

Yes, they are. The new ones even come with adhesive like you mention.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

First time I have seen that and done loads of p discs, no lubricant on touch points and pins still.
