To add, I recently purchased an led third brake light, as soon as fitted I too got the fault lights.
Leading evidence: 'Install i too got the fault lights' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check of your bulbs' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Once you’ve got that out you then become a dentist and have to take out the copper filling, which is about 1mile of very fine wire., once you’ve dug that out you should be able to use use grips to remove the plastic outer shell.

I will try and find the YouTube video I used for guidance and post a link on here

This is the YouTube video I used, was the only one I could find when I replaced mine, needless to say I removed whilst on the car, used for guidance only but it does show the process if yours snaps which it will do, they all do, hence having to drill and dig them out.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all new to here so hello, got a 2002 996 C2 a couple of months ago, made up with it, have had PSM and ABS fault warning lights come on a couple of times, read up on it and points too faulty or dirty MAF sensor. So I purchased a new Bosch replacement fitted it and then had warning lights come on 6 times in a couple of miles, and car was bogging quite a bit !!! So put old one back in performance was back to how it should be and no warning lights!! how very weird. Replacement was off EBAY but did come in a what looked like a genuine box from a business not an individual. Worth noting the old one wasn’t Bosch. Any thoughts or experiences??
It sounds like your issue isn't the MAF. What are the actual symptoms: is it coming on at a certain speed, is it coming on when cornering, is it coming on when driving over uneven surfaces, does it come on when starting the engine or just when the wheel are in motion?
1st thing I'd do is send the MAF back and just say you bought the wrong part.
PSM and ABS will not come on due to an engine/emissions related fault. Best guess would be you have a duff ABS sensor in one hub as PSM defaults to off, hence that light, if there are not coherent signals form the ABS sensors, hence the ABS light.
On the MAF, do you have the Bosch part number of the item you fitted? Porsche part numbers should be 986 606 125 01 or 986 606 125 02 (yes, 986 part numbers) which are Bosch 0 280 218 386 or 0 280 218 055. When mine failed on the 986 I got a used genuine one from a salvage breaker. 6+ years later it is still going fine. Only 20% of the price of a Bosch one new.
If you plan to have the car or other Porsches in future, I'd recommend at least getting an iCarsoft V1.0 POR or V2.0 POR or a Foxwell NT530 for Porsche. A £5 Bluetooth won't necessarily give you any info on anything not engine/emissions related. These read all the modules on the car and will reset airbag lights as well as read and clear other fault codes but will not do programming, that needs a step up in price to Durametric or Porsche's PIWIS. I started with the V1.0 iCarsoft and have since upgraded to a V2.0 CR (up to 10 makes, not just Porsche) and find it invaluable. The iCarsoft or Foxwell models I've suggested are under £150.
Wow knowledge is most definitely appreciated, checked the part number and it was 0 280 218 055, think I need to invest in a decent code reader as suggested as I’m sure at 24yrs old this won’t be the last electrical issue I have
many thanks
My money is on the abs/speed sensor, get a reader and you can pin it down, if it is that they are a ***** to remove. I’ve done front and rears, took on average 3hrs per sensor, horrible job.
Blood sweat and tears…
If they don’t come out with grips, you will have to resort to drilling them out, you can’t drill the centre, you have to drill around the kryptonite core. Once you’ve got that out you then become a dentist and have to take out the copper filling, which is about 1mile of very fine wire., once you’ve dug that out you should be able to use use grips to remove the plastic outer shell.
I will try and find the YouTube video I used for guidance and post a link on here
Thanks Baron3. I was under the impression that you had to dig them out but wasn't that sure and brave to say on here. Be great to see the video - i'll also look for it if you can't find it
This is the YouTube video I used, was the only one I could find when I replaced mine, needless to say I removed whilst on the car, used for guidance only but it does show the process if yours snaps which it will do, they all do, hence having to drill and dig them out. Crappy design from Porsche.
It will tell which corner, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a sensor. Could be the reluctor ring or even low tyre pressure on that corner (or the opposite corner), hence why I asked at the beginning what the symptoms were.
To remove mine I went in with a 3.5mm drill bit at 5 or 6 places around the diameter, then pulled the centre and copper coil wire out with long nosed pliers before breaking apart the outer plastic. If badly corroded, you need to clean out the oxide from the hole with emery cloth before fitting the replacement. Be very careful not to snap the retaining screw, but if you do someone on here makes a drilling jig to then be able to helicoil and renew the thread.
Sensors are front and rear Bosch 0 265 006 344 (996 606 406 00) with PSM and front '02 onwards 0 265 007 439 996 606 407 02) if no PSM, rear is the same as the PSM rear if you don't fancy paying Porsche tax. The cables come with the Porsche part number on them but in a Bosch box, so make of that what you will.
I've no firsthand experience of the Foxwell but on several forums they are equated to the iCarsoft in scope and performance, and the iCarsoft will tell you which ABS sensor.
BTW best pricing on iCarsoft is on the importer's outlet website
