However, the current registered owner could put the Warranty on the car immediately (assuming it passes the 111 point check)

Suggestion

My understanding is if you buy a Porsche from a non OPC as stated requires you to wait the 90days before you can apply for a warranty but requires the 111point check but I believe said car has to have had the last service done by a OPC if not the previous service will be required to be repeated to bring it in line .

Can you not negotiate some money off and get the service done at Porsche and then get the 111 point check done?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm very close to putting a deposit on a 718 Spyder. It's outside of the warranty period and coming from an independent dealer. Is it worth going through the 111 check and paying out for a Porsche warranty or sourcing a 3rd party one? If it's 3rd party, which one should I go for? Any other advice or thoughts around 111 checks are welcome!

POST 2Original post

The Porsche extended warranty on the 718 is pretty good value for money. I just did it on my GT4 for 3 years. Especially with known issues like the PADM fault. I d be tempted to say to the Indy that you will buy the after the 111 point check. Just in case.

POST 3Original post

The Porsche warranty is cheap an has no labour limit or deductible. You would be nuts to go with a 3rd party. If the car is stock ( as opposed to on consignment ) you need to wait 90 days before they will sell it to you

Point about an 3rd party warranty heard loud and clear!

Don't forget that if you go for a Porsche warranty you will be best sticking with OPC for servicing - with the inflated costs that implies. I know that in theory you can have car serviced outside OPC's but would you want to give them extra " wriggle room " to avoid a claim ??

I know that in theory you can have car serviced outside OPC's but would you want to give them extra " wriggle room " to avoid a claim ?? Yes, I understand that as well. I do think there is value for the OPC service history, so it's a case of pays your money, takes your choice. The idea of saving the difference to cover any additional costs is an option, but I prefer the safety net of a warranty. The 90 day ruling is a challenge, but I can see why it's there.

Having said all that a Independent cannot sell a Porsche with a Porsche warranty in place unless it is sold as SOR by the vendor ,BUT I know of some one who bought a 992 from a well established indie and enquired at Reading as to how long he had to wait to be told the said car has a warranty in place into July 2026 and has full OPC service history in place all up to date . PS I am on my 18th Porsche having had 2 Spyders so have dealt with OPC as well as Indies in my time ,but unlikely to go back to an OPC again Ie Minor service £1250 V £450 Edited by woodysnr on Monday 15th December 15:04

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks. 18 Porsches is an impressive number. This will only be my 2nd, and if it's serviced before it's handed over and I can get 2 years warranty on it, after that runs out I'll be able to pick my option as I'll know the car by then. It's just this leap into the unknown as to what's needed to get it through the 111 and back onto the official warranty

POST 9Original post

We all have to start somewhere ! that 18 is over 33yrs of ownership .there are plenty cars out there so no pressures ,agree if you buy get to know the car and decide what route you want to go .I doubt I will ever buy another from or visit an OPC again their service costs are eye watering now ,put the warranty££££ into a fund and see how it pans out over time .If the car is well serviced and pre inspection you should be fine its a buyers market esp into winter

Can you not negotiate some money off and get the service done at Porsche and then get the 111 point check done? Also, I would call Porsche or your local OPC and say you have just bought the car privately and want to get an idea on warranty cost. They might say it still has warranty on it.

POST 11Original post

I have 2 cars on OPC warranty. Expensive, with the tied servicing but the premium has easily been paid back 10x (yes 10x) on my cars. Examples: - 991.1 - new PDK gearbox - no questions asked - 991.1 - high pressure fuel pump - Macan - both drive shafts and all bits due to a clicking noise - Macan - full air suspension pump, arms and sensors and other stuff. I would not ever consider any other 3rd party warranty. Change my mind but these aren't worth the paper they're written on.

POST 12Original post

stuckmojo said: I would not ever consider any other 3rd party warranty. Change my mind but these aren't worth the paper they're written on. Go all in with Factory/Porsche Dealer Warranty. Or roll the dice and put the cash in a box under your bed. The middle ground (3rd party 'warranties') are the worst option all round.

I've got pricing from a local OPC on both warranty and servicing. It's being sold at an indy local to me, I won't share the name as I don't think that's fair. I've seen it, and they are pretty stubborn on price, as they've not had it that long. They have said it will be serviced before the sale, and that's included in the price.

POST 14Original post

What I am getting at is the service going to add value or take value away? Before Ashgood got hold of the car was there a warranty on it? I'm presuming it is at Ashgoods because they seem to be the only dealer to have them cheaper than main dealers, although, not by much. I would have no issue buying from Ashgood if it is them. If not them, I think I would rather buy from an OPC, it will then come with 2 years warranty and be prepped and serviced so that can be continued too. OPCs will definitely have a deal at the moment too.

POST 15Original post

If the 4.0 engine goes it is a 40k+ bill. The engine alone is 37k retail. It does happen, I no longer have my 4.0 GTS On a car like that I would definitely 100% want the porsche warranty.

POST 16Original post

ThisInJapanese said: They have said it will be serviced before the sale, and that's included in the price. Who is doing the service? An OPC? Have you had a look at the service book - is it all Porsche main dealer serviced? If you can, I would have the OPC warranty personally, it's not hideously expensive and it covers pretty much everything - in particular any PADM issues. The other thing to add is that there are other cars available - if this dealer is being tricky, go and find another.

They've been really good. This is about my dilemma of car with or without a warranty and which is the best way to go.

POST 19Original post

The 90 day rule relates to the period from which the new owner registers the V5 in their name. However, the current registered owner could put the Warranty on the car immediately (assuming it passes the 111 point check)

ThisInJapanese said: OPC history. The dealer isn't being tricky, quite the opposite! They've been really good. This is about my dilemma of car with or without a warranty and which is the best way to go. Good to hear. Get the OPC warranty when you can - I have a 911 with the OPC warranty, I wouldn't be without it. Dealer and other third party warranties, in my experience, are not as good.

POST 22Original post

If the vehicle already has a Porsche Extended Warranty the current owner, if not the dealer, can extend it without the 111 point check. If ownership of the vehicle passes to the dealer then the warranty ceases and cannot be passed on by an independent dealer. In that event a new 111 point check would be required, subject to the 90 day period mentioned and the last service would need to be at an OPC. The dealer will be aware of this and may have a way around it.

POST 23Original post

As far as I know, if the car is being sold by an independent dealer the extended warranty ceases - there's no way around this unless the car is being sold on consignment.

POST 25Original post

Yes, but if there is a ‘friendly’ previous owner still on the V5, they can extended or renew the Warranty if they are cooperative.
