to a Firestone to have an alignment done (I just fitted a new set of coilovers) and the baboon that worked on my car managed to break the frunk switch (and make a greasy mess of the sides of my light colored seat bucket seat....)

Since I can simply replace the entire unit, I tried to crazy glue the little, tiny piece with baking soda, and it worked so far...seems sturdy so far but will see....

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Last week I took my Cayman to a Firestone to have an alignment done (I just fitted a new set of coilovers) and the baboon that worked on my car managed to break the frunk switch (and make a greasy mess of the sides of my light colored seat bucket seat....) So I ordered a $13 replacement from the forest. Visually it looks exactly the same but I found that after 1 day, the hatch release stopped working and while the frunk release still works, it takes nearly 2 seconds of holding up the switch before the frunk actually releases. The feeling of the switch is also slightly less good. Weird. I have no idea what the reason is but in my mind, I'm putting it down to the electronics in the new switch. So I dismantled the new switch and put the pcb board and rubber membrane from my original broken switch into my cheap switch. Bada bing, Bada boom. The $13 replacement switch feels and operates just like the factory one now! Cheers, Julian

POST 2Original post

I think I did the same 2 years ago, TBH as the drop-in $13 one didn't seem to do the trick on my end. They're not too difficult to disassemble if you use a plastic spudger and you just take your time. I think I broke a few plastic tabs along the way but that's sort of par for the course. Great job, @Apexhunter987 !

POST 3Original post

Did they pay to clean your car? Because that would piss me off to no end.

POST 4Original post

I don't want them ever touching any of my cars again.

POST 6Original post

This is awesome and really helped me. In fact, I was about to order and opened the switch to ensure I can do it without destroying things and the broken piece was in the switch. Since I can simply replace the entire unit, I tried to crazy glue the little, tiny piece with baking soda, and it worked so far...seems sturdy so far but will see....
