Suggestion

1st one is diversity antenna and GPS with Fakra connectors, I think they are both factory wiring as I used them both on my retrofit with suitable adapters, so could use factory GPS sensor instead of the separate one that came with my head unit, and use the antenna in the windscreen with a signal booster and converter into a standard aerial connector (reception still useless).

Suggestion

I have one with mine, it's usually to provide native 4G connectivity to an aftermarket head unit so you can use youtube/spotify etc as native apps on the HU rather than carplay or android auto....

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I’m halfway through changing my head unit and someone has been before! What are these unused plugs for? *edit* so the blue one is gps and the mustard one the diversity antenna

POST 3Original post

Various stuff from a previous audio installation. 1st photo is antennas (GPS, etc.), second photos are either sim card or sd card reader.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Alex. Those first ones confused me, I thought they might be fibre optics which didn’t make sense at all. Thanks

POST 5Original post

Quotes source post: 2774531

Could that be a tracker? Someone posted a picture of a similar thing dangling down near their pedals.

POST 6Original post

It's deffo a card reader of some sort. Suppose they could all be remnants of a tracker.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah, my first thought was a SD card reader, or SIM card reader..

POST 8Original post

1st one is diversity antenna and GPS with Fakra connectors, I think they are both factory wiring as I used them both on my retrofit with suitable adapters, so could use factory GPS sensor instead of the separate one that came with my head unit, and use the antenna in the windscreen with a signal booster and converter into a standard aerial connector (reception still useless).

POST 9Original post

the other one is as others have said, a SIM card holder. I have one with mine, it's usually to provide native 4G connectivity to an aftermarket head unit so you can use youtube/spotify etc as native apps on the HU rather than carplay or android auto.... I stuck a SIM in mine and used it for a bit, but the 4G reception was flaky so no point paying the subcription for the data SIM when carplay worked a lot better anyway.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a couple more, any ideas? Thanks

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It’s a complicated system! I’ve been researching and it appears this yellow plug has speaker cables? Why are there speaker cables when I have fibre optics? Thanks

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 2774530

Which one is gps and any ideas on how to connect to the pioneer hu? Thanks

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I thought the connectors had been standardised on car audio now but it appears not. The fakra blue plug for the gps antenna on my 996 does not fit the pioneer HU. Of course pioneer use a different plug alpine offer an adapter for their HU but pioneer do not - and their plugs are different to alpines The OCD in me did not want to fit the pioneer gps antenna when there is an oe one already installed. So much research led me to this - the only place I can find it is on Ali express. It may help someone…

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Not exactly straightforward installing a head unit! Ali Express bargain arrived and saved the day. After an initial glitch (one plug was slightly bent) I finally have wireless CarPlay.. Thanks to this adapter. Just waiting for my DAB ariel now. Then I have that to install plus a usb c lead to the glove box and a rear camera…
