My
987.1
Boxster
is factory equipped with the Sound Plus system. The head unit has been replaced with a single DIN Alpine. Not the best sound quality.
I've ordered and received the PCCM+ head unit. I've also with out knowing my eventual question I've found and purchased the
Bose
rear speaker shelf and the factory wiring harness.
The harness is for a
986
"
Porsche Boxster
rear speaker cable kit 5001.211"
My question is if I can add the rear speakers to the factory ASK Amp located in the front trunk. I haven't received the wire harness yet but it looks like the radio connector would fit into the back of the PCCM+ Not sure if it would
plug
into the PCCM+ if that would cause an issue with other 7 speakers.
Thanks in advance.
I'd do a quick search as there's a great build thread on this if you have SPP. Unfortunately, that's not the right rear speaker you'll want/need (your pic is a
Bose subwoofer
that goes with
Bose
, not SPP). You'll want the rear parcel shelf (if you don't have one), and something like this:
987/986 Boxster Rear Speaker Kit

I made my own kit out of various parts, and I'd just buy the kit if I had to do it all over again. Really fills in the 5.1 sound in the car where it's not all coming at you from the front. Plus, you might want to upgrade your SPP speakers as well (do another search).
Let us know how you get on with this,

! And again - Welcome to P9!
I am hoping if I replace the ASK amp with a non OEM I'll be able to use the 7 speakers and add the
Bose
rear. But time will tell when I take everything to the audio expert.
Surely you'll be able to power speakers however want -- the question is how it will sound in the end. The key thing to understand is that the ASK amp takes a normal 2 CH signal and spits it out as 5.1 (3 on dash, 2 Left door, 2 Right door). The rear package (which was originally available as an option in the
986
and possibly the 987) gives you four more 3" speakers in the rear, are in the rear parcel shelf. Basically, your stock ASK amp already has outputs already for rear -- but they're just not used in the
Boxster
.
I personally am pretty happy with what I did (my doors now give me more bass than I'll ever need - my ears hurt TBH) using the stock and crappy ASK amp. I'm now getting mid/high now from the rear - so I'm more in the center of the sound. However, I did all that on a budget and surely there are better options out there. Let us know how things work out! Curious to see your build.
