Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello . As part of my 996 resurrection I want to install a catless x pipe- . Plenty of brands out there but the FVD seems to be a good bang for the buck . I am building a 3.8 stage II engine and plan on running OEM headers , the x pipe- and stock mufflers with a DIY Fister type mod . Anyone running the FVD x pipe- ? How do you like ? How was fitment ? Overall performance ? Thanks in advance .

POST 2Original post

I do not have the catless x pipe, but I do have the FVD 200 cell cats and sport mufflers. They are well build, sound great and have lasted over 14 years. FVD is a high quality company with high quality products. Eventually I will replace the entire exhaust again with FVD, including their headers. I run Oem headers currently. FYI, there was a set of headers for a good price on RL Marketplace for the 996. Sound and fitment are exceptional. Exactly what you would expect from FVD. Performance gains came in the mid range. Dont know how much. Butt dyno says maybe 5-10 Hp. I didn't buy them for performance gains. I bought them for weight loss and sound. Approximately 20lbs in weight loss.

I have the FVD catless pipe and Fister exhaust. You Tube You Tube You will need spacers to prevent getting codes. You should also get a tune, which Im sure you will do with the engine. It was noticeably flat without the tune in the lower revs. Feels pretty healthy now.

POST 5Original post

A friend had one. I‘ve gotten to see it next to my Fabspeed x-pipe. (I’ve since sold my Fabspeed and have gone back to cats.) I believe the FVD is better designed than the Fabspeed. They both sound great!

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys . Diddy your car sounds great . Yeah I am already planning on O2 spacers I had to use them on my Boxster S for the same reason . Glad to hear positive comments on the quality of the FVD .

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Forgot to mention my engine will get Dyno tuned when completed . On my Boxster S the final tune = 20 HP more than what we started at with a very solid torque curve .

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The FVD x-pipe arrived today . It is one great looking piece . If it performs as good as it looks I will be a happy camper 😁 . Thanks again for all that provided feedback .

Awesome. Post some pics of it and vids after the installation. I bought mine used, so I never had the joy of the first unboxing.

I took it off and went back to my factory cats. I am having F6I rebuild and tune my car this year. I wanted to make sure that I could keep the car in the same configuration for many years. I sold my x-pipe to help fund the new Soul Sport Cats I installed this evening. Hopefully the sport cats will be fine here in TX in the future. I really missed the x-pipe’s sound. I’m hopeful that the sport cats will sound good too. I haven’t had a chance to hear them yet.

please let us know dyno numbers once you get to it. So will this complete a total exhaust or just pipes and mufflers?

It will be late this year before the engine will make noise 😁. Talking with Jake he feels the 996 OEM headers flow fine so I am keeping them just going to have them coated with Cerakote . Also going to keep the original mufflers but I will do a DIY version of the Fister D bypass . Listening to online videos this " should " provide the sound I am looking for. Will be building a 3.8 Stage II engine but I am not looking for bragging rights hp , I want a solid torque curve with useable power that doesn't have to rev to 7k to enjoy . Len Hoffman has my heads right now , I am waiting to hear what their condition is and what my options are . Block is heading to LN Engineering this week . I hope after she's all done we have 300 hp at the wheels with a very solid/linear torque curve . That would be in the neighborhood of 350-360 crank HP which will be a great mountain carver . Still have to talk with Jake about any intake mods or changes . Everything else has been discussed and an order list has been finalized . I have a Boxster S with a 3.6 R51 engine so I am quite familiar with the performance Jake and crew produce . I am sure the 3.8 will meet all of my performance expectations 😋.
