I had a tuned 3.8L installed in mine, replaced most of the suspension and brakes but it was just an S with PDK - left the inside alone.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

27 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just wondering if anyone has done any mods on their 981 GTS? I’ve got one and there are a few things missing from the 911 GTS (991.2) I had previously that I miss - eg reversing camera, Apple Car Play, Lane ChangeAssist, Speed Limit Indicator - that I wish I had. Possibly other things I could add. Has anyone had these or anything else retrofitted, and if so, what was the cost?

POST 2Original post

I had a tuned 3.8L installed in mine, replaced most of the suspension and brakes but it was just an S with PDK - left the inside alone.

POST 3Original post

You will have the speed limit indicator already, just go into setup. It will show in the 3rd instrument dial (on the bottom row). Apple Carplay and a reversing camera can be added to PCM 3.1 but you will need kits. Here's a guide : http://www.boxa.net/forum/topic/85596-981-apple-ca... There are loads more 981 modification ideas on Boxa.net Lane assist though is a project too far.

POST 4Original post

981 S I have race headers and Stage 2 tune. I've had cruise control retrofitted and also had PCM 3.1 software and maps updated to 2019 versions. Not got round to reversing camera or Android Auto yet.

POST 5Original post

I found somewhere that retrofits apple car play - but for the life of me can't find the link now. I seem to remember it was a bit pricey but a very good professional job.

Be interesting to see what my car made on them rollers! I had planned on popping in on my 2020 road trip but then Covid. I did speak to them quite a lot last year when I was getting mine ready to bolt the headers on. Edited by AJB88 on Thursday 13th August 10:45

POST 10Original post

Porsche911R said: https://youtu.be/PK9BRZCpc2k that sounds fantastic! and you'd prefer a 4 pot turbo over that?! how much does a mod like that cost? that's close to GT4 power/torque...

POST 11Original post

Not a great deal. I paid about £700 for race headers and £600 ish for software. The tuning company above did tell me I wouldn't gain much at all my doing the GT3 throttle body and plenum, car sounds immense with race headers + PSE.

POST 13Original post

I got that quite a bit cheaper, I went for the "cheap" headers from Top Gear, you can easily spend £1300-2000 on headers alone, the COBB tuning system I got is usually about £1300 as well, I got it 2nd hand for £600 from a boxster owner. If I keep the car much longer (at the moment might keep it another few months) I will upgrade the rear X pipe as well to give a little more sound.

JasonSteel said: good to know there's an upgrade path if needed. to do it right and get 380bhp is about £8k though. there maybe cheaper options but you have to pay for quality, Manifolds with 200cel cats are £3.5k and that's the main spend.

Porsche911R said: I read the 1st line got excited. :-) nice a 380Bhp GTS with a set of 3 ways project. I read the 2nd line switched off :-( My 911 had similar bhp and I couldn’t use it fully on public roads, so not interested in that sort of power in a lighter car.

POST 21Original post

Like Porsche911R I got excited on reading the first line and turned cold with the second line . I have a 2016 Boxster S PDK , and I think it only needs one modification , but it needs this modification pretty desperately. It needs a lower set of gear ratios , or some mechanical or electronic cleverness that equates to this . Is anyone aware of any such modification that doesn’t cost the universe or involves opening up the gearbox ? That would make an almost perfect car , into a perfect car .( barring the steering and weight )

POST 22Original post

nmautomotive.co.uk for Carplay retrofit. i haven't done it but read it works well. My pcm is coming out. headers, exhaust, tune, suspension. thats what a 981 deserves !

POST 26Original post

The engine needs a new main shaft and regear, it’s 10k to do it right. I bet rpm would want 6k to do theirs inc a new 6th gear and it will still wear out faster. It’s a shame rpm have not ever in the last 3 years done a follow up vid.
