Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi, I read that the Cayman comes with'Ignition disable security ' as standard equipment. Is this the same as 'immobilizer' in 911s produced after 1996? Is it a pain (i.e. a few lock/unlock fidgetting to disengage) to use when starting the car? Thanks for the education. CP

POST 2Original post

AFAIK, yes it is... there's a chip in the key that needs to communicate with the chip in the ignition... if they don't match, the car goes nowhere. I've not had any problems with this system in 8 years of owning a 1999 996 and a 2002 turbo... and now the Cayman . brad

POST 4Original post

the immobilizer is not the same as 993 in operation. you lock and unlock the door with key and then you just fire it up. in the 993, sometimes if you unlock the door and watied too long to start engine, you have to hit the button on the immoblizer again. no so in cayman .
