Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 1 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello forum buddies- My driver side rear axle needs replacement. Dealership sent me a new axle (part number is 996.332.024.96). However; it is a bit short. The axle hub/neck (I don't know the proper term) area (red circled) looks different. Thus; I was wondering if any of you all have the measurement of your axle (end to end) and the axle portion for comparison purposes, or know what this idjuit (me) is missing. Thank you!

POST 2Original post

Pull the new axle out to the fullest extension of the CV joints and see if it's the same length as the old one.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

We did try pulling it out- and it still came just a bit short of bolting it in. I should have taken the picture with it extended. It is just short enough (about 3/4 of an inch) not to be able to bolt it in. Maybe we didn't pull it out enough. I'll have him give it another good pull. Thank you!

POST 4Original post

What's the PN on your old axle? The .96 alleges to be the the rear axle for a manual 996.1 - is that what you have?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 996.2- That may explain it- Thank you! I can't see a part number on the old axle

Is this tiptronic? There is a spacer part # 99633222901 All manual 996 rear axles are the same. 99633202413

Thank you for the reply! It is a manual. We did pull it out to full extension but still a bit short- ughhhhh. Probably wrong part as you show it should be 99633202413. I appreciate the info! I looked back under the car, and the passenger side axle shows it to be part #99633202403. I assume it may have been superceded with other number you show as 99633202413. The Porsche dealership (that sent us the new axle) is researching the issue. We'll see what they come up with for an answer.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Victory! Received another axle with the part number of 996.332.024.96 (same as first post in this thread)- it worked and is installed on right rear! The first axle I received would not stretch enough to reach as mentioned in the first post, and was returned to sender. The 996.332.024.96 has superceded the other numbers. I spoke with a few different dealerships and they all provided the same information regarding the current axle part number is 996.332.024.96. One dealership stated there were none available and would be 6-10 weeks to get one from Germany. Fortunately, Audi Springfield was able to locate 2 of them. My passenger rear has held up well considering how old it is, and the abuse it has taken on track. I have another new axle now in my spare parts bin for when the passenger rear axle/boot decides to retire- hahahahahaha
